Dixieland Delight - easily my #1

#2 Song of the South - the line "But we were so poor that we couldn't tell" rings pretty true when talking to my parents or older relatives about what they remember of the Great Depression.

and then Mountain Music, Closer You Get, and anything else for 5.

Does this mean that you think the group Alabama sings "Sweet Home Alabama" or that you're not aware there is a band called Alabama and you think the OP is asking for songs with Alabama as the theme?

I think its his way of saying country music sucks, because you can't have a country music thread without somebody crashing in to tell everybody that country music sucks.

There is a bar on the boardwalk in Mrytle Beach that still advertises that Alabama was their house band.

I don't mean a note, a picture on their wall, or even a wall of pictures but the last time i was there it was litterally the entire side of their building.

I was at A&M when that song came out. A buddy of mine who was a die-hard Rangers fan used to say that the Rangers were the embodiment of the lyric "We've got a great pitcher what's his name"

I think some moody singer that teenagers like should cover Old Flame and see how long it took them to realize it was an 80's country hit. That's a good song, except you'd have to change "you ain't hidin' nothing that I don't know" to sound less, well, Alabama.

It's weird, I don't like much that they did after '83, but I am a big fan of the old stuff.

1. My Home's in Alabama
2. Old Flame
3. Feels so Right
4. Take me Down
5. Closer You Get

And of course Christmas in Dixie.

Alabama is a great band, and I like a lot of their music. These three songs are in my all time top 200 (of all songs, all time, all genres, all artists):

#63 Tennessee River
#122 Dixieland Delight
#178 Mountain Music

Those rankings may look high, but they're competing with the entire catalog of Beatles, Rolling Stones, George Strait, Zeppelin, Willie Nelson, etc. Taking 3 spots in that list is a big deal.

That song isn't even about Alabama, just that he had "Sweet Home Alabama" playing on the radio.

Why Lady Why makes me want to drink beer in a dark dive bar in north Bryan in the middle of the afternoon. So dark that when someone opens the door it almost blinds you.

I saw him at memphis in may years ago. He put on a damn fun show. It was a celebration of things trash.

Also his planet money episode on NPR is worth a listen.

Is that by number of listens, or do you actually sit down and rank songs? If it's the latter, I'm kind of impressed.

Midnight in Montgomery - Alan Jackson

I realize that most of Alabama's songs have a certain amount of hokey lyrics that make you say "We get it, your from the South and proud of it" (kind of like RHCP mentioning California in every song), and that is part of their appeal. I'm not a fan of their straight pandering songs though, like 40 Hour Week and Roll On.
