What are some great examples of this? This one immediately comes to mind.

Although in that scene the music is a part of the actual setting...

Also looking for examples where the music whether the cinematic score or a soundtrack don't match.

That song makes perfect sense for that movie.

Messing around since I'd posted this and had thought about Clockwork Orange and American Psycho.

Man this is such a great part of cinema or tv when pulled off.

I can't help but think that Tarantino and Scorsese were influenced by this scene. "Atlantis" in Goodfellas and "Stuck in the Middle with You" in Reservoir Dogs.

college basketball on fox now has the john tesh theme music from the 90s NBA on NBC and it feels horribly wrong, but also kind of right.

I agree that the song fits well in the movie, but the music (theme from a romantic comedy) doesn't really match the tone of the scene (brutally violet/rape scene).

Ironically, the music wasn't originally scripted--they had several takes with Kubrick experimenting with different things when he asked Malcolm McDowell to dance during the scene. He did, and sang "Singing in the Rain," the only song he could remember, which then became the iconic scene from the movie.

It fits the farcical nature of the film but not the reality of the situation

Not a movie, but I always thought the placement of the cover of Heroes (done by Peter Gabriel) was odd in Stranger Things. Prior to this song, only popular 70's hits were being played in the series. Then along comes this one. It works well, no doubt, but still.........strange.

The movie Kick-A$$. The first scene where Hit Girl is violently killing people while the music is from a 70s Saturday morning show. It was great. You tube it. A great scene.

Starts at about the 1:10 mark of the first link. One of the most nerve wracking scenes ever. Man, a great movie.

This is the only one that stands out to me. With the rest, the music is like a great tie; it pulls the scene together and elevates it to some place better.

The scene in butch cassidy and the sundance kid was just jarring

All the music in Peaky Blinders. I like the music, I just think its odd to have all this indie garage rock in a show that takes place in the 1920s.

Ditto. I somehow had never heard that song though until this episode so was surprised to discover it was out of place from a time period perspective.

Own that album now.

Another thing that always confused me in older baseball movies is how they always refer to winning the pennant as if thats the World Series. Maybe in Major League's case its because they wanted to show them playing the Yankees as the final hurdle and so that would need to be the ALCS? If they are paying for the rights to the teams, the names, the uniforms etc, they certainly could also have "World Series".

Major League isn't alone in this certainly, but for some reason right now I'm drawing a blank on other ones who do it.

The Natural, though that was the basis of the bet for ownership of the team.

Believe it's something to do with how "World Series" is trademarked and aggressively defended

I can't find a YouTube of it, but the opening sequence of the original Planet of the Apes, where they've crashed landing and are crawling over rocks to find shelter or whatever. I know it's a product of its time, but ugh.
