Name either your top ten FILMS, top ten TV SERIES, or a combination of both, all in one list (films, TV series, documentaries, docuseries, etc). I'm posting *everything* I've seen (and have yet to see) in 2020, so everyone can get an idea of what was released this year and has enough titles to draw from. Considering "these unprecedented times," I'm honestly surprised by how much great content there was overall, especially in TV...

FILMS

Notable 2020 films I haven't yet seen...

(I have a feeling Minari and/or Promising Young Woman and/or one of the Small Axe films will likely crack my top five, once I finally get to see them over the next few weeks.)

TV SERIES

Notable 2020 TV series I haven't yet seen...

2020 TV series I started but didn't finish...

- Love Life (HBO Max)
- Raised by Wolves (HBO Max)
- We Are Who We Are (HBO)

Just think, if not for Covid, in 2020 we would have *also* seen...

- Barry - Season 3 (HBO)
- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Disney+)
- The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - Season 4 (Amazon Prime Video)
- The Righteous Gemstones - Season 2 (HBO)
- Stranger Things - Season 4 (Netflix)
- Succession - Season 3 (HBO)
- WandaVision (Disney+)

... among others. What a year it would have been, but what a year we still got, as this was easily still one of the best years of television I can remember.

Honestly, I could make a top 10 with nothing but Ted Lasso episodes. For me, Episode 7 is the greatest single episode of any TV series I've seen ever. Best show I've seen in years and perfect for 2020.

I can only conclude that TCTTS only saw 20 movies this year, that's the only justification I can see him put WW84 at 20. If another film is below that, yikes.

Combined, I don't think I've seen ten discrete movies and television shows this year. I get most of my entertainment second-hand from you folks.

I only went to one movie in 2020 in the theaters, and that was Uncut Gems. Highly recommend it.

TV shows - Dave, Mandalorian, Ted Lasso, Queens Gambit, Righteous Gemstones, *****t's Creek, The Unicorn, and The Morning Show were all excellent and new shows I watched in 2020. Flight Attendant started strong, but the finale was horrible. The outsider drug out way too long but was decent.

Streaming Movies - Social Dilemma, Greyhound were good. As discussed in other forums, I'd rather watch paint dry than try to watch WW84 again.

I wonder how this board feels about Wonder Woman 84?

Seriously though I only saw 8 movies released in 2020 so I hadn't even made a Letterboxd list for it yet.

Top 5 would be this:

With Palm Springs just missing the cut.

Plan to see The Gentleman, Mank, On the Rocks, and a few others at some point.

Tv Shows is a little more substantial of a list. I'd probably go something like:

1. Better Call Saul
2. Mandalorian
3. The First Half of Season 5 of The Expanse
4. The Great
5. Westworld
6. Ozark
7. Doom Patrol
8. Curb
9. Perry Mason
10. Fargo

Edit: Bojack Horseman is in there somewhere. Probably Top 5. Forgot that the second half of the final season came out in January. What a long year.

The Last Dance is probably somewhere in there as well but hard for me to compare it to everything else on the list.

Oh and I'm like halfway through Ted Lasso and can confirm this show is far more awesome than it has any right to be.

Ha, yes. As noted in the OP, this is *everything* I've seen this year. Otherwise, for me, there is literally not another movie under WW84 in the past - I don't know - 15 years or so, if not more.

A series that I doubt many have heard of or tried or maybe have seen on HBO Max and passed over is Veneno. If you like Pedro Almodovar movies, you'd probably like this.

It's a Spanish movie based on a book about a controversial transgender woman who became very famous in Spain in the late 80s/90s. It starts with her as a little boy and the struggles of growing up different and how being bullied (especially from her mom) ended up shaping the rest of her life. It's hilarious. It's heart-breaking. It's different. It's very well done. And I think it's important.

If you do decide to watch it, my recommendation is in Spanish with English subtitles. The voice overs are terrible, and I think it takes away too much from the characters' personalities. Highly recommend. One of my favorites of the year.
