I'm looking for a good audiobook for a long road trip we're taking later this week. I'm pretty open to ideas and enjoy most genres. It just needs to keep my attention and be enjoyable. I like scifi, WW2, well...pretty much anything.

Audiobooks I've enjoyed so far (so you can judge what I like)...
- Ready Player One
- Into Thin Air
- Jurassic Park
- Wild
- The Martian
- Timeline
- The Time Machine

When I browse Audible nothing ever really catches my attention so I'm hoping yall can help! Thanks!

Hardcore History (podcasts but long enough to count as ebooks)
anything by Erik Larson but particularly Devil in the White City or Dead Wake

Dune is another good long audiobook.

WWZ is also a great listen.

I was going to say the Martian but you already listed it.

Surprisingly, World War Z is one of my favorite audiobooks. It's a full cast of characters doing the reading and was very well done.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Team of Rivals is phenomenal (and definitely meets the "long" criteria).

The Expanse series is good sci-fi and the audiobooks are well done, that's how I read the first 4 books in the series when I had a longish drive to work.

I'm about four hours into Mary Beard's "SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome" and am enjoying it; possibly a little dry, but your mileage may vary. Also second jeffk's suggestion of Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast - very long-form; I think his Kings of Kings set runs (on the Persian dynasty) runs close to ten hours total. Neil Gaiman's "Norse Mythology" is also really good - read by the author himself in a kind of storyteller fashion.

I'll also never not suggest any of Raymond Chandler's novels (for audio, I prefer the ones read by Ray Porter).

May not be what you're looking for, but when my kids got old enough to catch on and hear what we listened to, we had to shift the types of books we could listen to.
We made it through all of the Lemony Snicket books over the course of a couple of years.

I've never heard the audiobook nor do I know if one exists, but you seem to like Crichton. Sphere is my favorite of his books.

Very entertaining, pretty good length, and multiple sequels. The narrator is excellent too. Back when I commuted, I'd hope for traffic jams when I was listening to it.

Lots of good choices already. I'd add Harry Potter narrated by Jim Dale. I prefer it over the books and the movies.

The Way of Shadows (Night Angel Trilogy book 1): Brent Weeks (21 hrs 4 min)

"The Lost Symbol" is Dan Brown's third book in the series starting with "Angels and Demons" and "The DaVinci Code". It is easily my favorite of the the three.

I liked it but I kinda like that genre a bunch. Comparable to a Kingkiller Chronicles (only completed) or Stormlight Archives. I didn't listen to it on Audible, I read it in book form, but a good long book that has an actual ending but not so long that you forget some of it by the time you get to the end (looking at you Wheel of Time).

The Feather Thief- Kirk Wallace Johnson
Nonfiction
8hrs

On a cool June evening in 2009, after performing a concert at London's Royal Academy of Music, twenty-year-old American flautist Edwin Rist boarded a train for a suburban outpost of the British Museum of Natural History. Home to one of the largest ornithological collections in the world, the Tring museum was full of rare bird specimens whose gorgeous feathers were worth staggering amounts of money to the men who shared Edwin's obsession: the Victorian art of salmon fly-tying. Once inside the museum, the champion fly-tier grabbed hundreds of bird skinssome collected 150 years earlier by a contemporary of Darwin's, Alfred Russel Wallace, who'd risked everything to gather themand escaped into the darkness.

Billion Dollar Whale for a non-fiction option about the most incredible embezzlement scheme in history. And it's still kind of unfolding right now.
