The wife and I saw it last night. We had no expectations and we were both pleasantly surprised. Quite funny at times mixed in with some darkness although it is a Disney movie so nothing sadistic.

Emma Stone is fantastic. She nails the role and the supporting characters around her (2 sidekicks) are both are both perfect. Not sure if a movie like this could garner her an award but I'd be surprised if she didn't at least get a mention. She really makes the movie.

Highly recommend for a fun night at the theatre.

The only question is why? Why is there is a Cruella origin story?

Sorry Tanya. I missed the dollar sign.

You think a movie being made for the purpose of making money is a "nonsensical answer"?

Disney is making live-action remakes of so many of their movies, it's at least different that they decided to do a Cruella origin movie instead of a live action 101 Dalmations movie with all CGI dogs.

Instead of a live-action Sleeping Beauty, they did a Maleficent movie with Angelina Jolie. Instead of a 101 Dalmations movie, they did a Cruella movie with Emma Stone.

Personally, I'd love for them to do a remake of The Great Mouse Detective. That's an underrated and forgotten classic.

The Fox and the Hound is forbidden to be remade however.

I mean, they did already do it (and a sequel) live action, though thankfully it was mostly live action on the dogs. The success of those films kind of got them started with the whole remake trend of their animated library.

My daughter, 11 years old, saw Cruella last night and had a good time. Emma Stone seems to have done very well with the character, no surprise.

It's got some dark themes in it. Can be a little scary for little ones at times. Depends on how your kid does with those kinds of things normally.

Question. Is it made clear in this movie that Cruella in fact wishes to skin dogs for their fur?

Took my daughters to see it tonight.

The threat of her doing that is played up in the film but it's not clear she actually wants to do it.

I didn't want to see this, but I was really surprised at how good it is. The soundtrack was fantastic and Stone was awesome. She nailed the role and really made it a good movie. I don't think she's attractive at all, but oddly enough she looks great in this role.

I'd always heard that they got to have a remake every so often to maintain the copyright on it.

Really well done movie. Wife and I enjoyed it.

Anyone else find it funny Emma and the two guys played essentially 20 year olds? Might be a big continuity error but the dogs give away the ages if you stop and think about it.

No way they are close to that IRL.

Wife and I enjoyed it a lot as well, thought it was really good. Emma Stone was great, and Emma Thompson was as well.

Shut your mouth! That movie is perfect as is and doesn't need to be remade.

It's not inappropriate, but it's also not really a little kids film.

Pretty amusing video.
For some reason I particularly like this line at 4:13
"That's a thing that happens in movies, so it may as well happen in this one, too"

I too had zero expectations going in to watch this, and was pleasantly surprised, as well. Great sound track, original story line, and good acting from all involved. I forgot what it was like to watch quality new content after having been without for the past year.

Saw it this weekend and enjoyed it for what it was. Messy but overall enjoyable. Music was simultaneously a little distracting and also one of the best parts of the whole movie. Loved the look of 60s London, and the Emma's and PWH killed it in my opinion.

The mom's death scene was... something. I laughed when it happened. Absolutely absurd. I was confident they were going to circle back to it and show that Estella had misremembered how it went down. Nope.

Anyway I'd probably rank it as the second or third best of the latest batch of Disney Live Action movies that I've seen.

This is a fair point that I've seen some discussion on, especially with talks for an Ursula origin movie as well. The genre of "This evil character from your childhood is only evil because a bad thing happened to them" could get old real quick, whether that concept has a basis in reality or not.

My daughter has watched this a few rivers in the last few days. It's not bad. The cast really elevates the movie.
Did anyone else feel like it was a Disney version of a Scorsese movie? The classic rock needle drops, narration, longer take shots, big sweeps and pans all felt like him.
