We missed this show when it originally aired, so we have been watching straight through.
We noticed that on Netflix they have rated the show "TV-MA for Nudity" yes, NUDITY!!!
This show is like watching Andy Griffith in the 1960s yet they label EVERY episode of SG-1 for NUDITY.

It is a great clean show with sci-fi, teamwork, saving the world, patriotism and snarky comments from Col. "MacGyver."
Is Netflix just trying to keep children 10-17 who cannot or are not allowed to watch TV-MA shows by mis-rating the show?

Sorry I'll get off my soapbox now.

I watched the hell out of this show and Atlantis, and I don't remember any.

The SG-1 pilot, "Children of the Gods" has nudity.

It's the way their ratings work. The pilot episode has full frontal nudity because Showtime insisted. When it didn't really work they backed off of making the producers do that from then on out. Netflix however only rates the show as a whole so, since there's one instance of nudity in the entire ten seasons, they label it MA and put the nudity tag on every episode.

Then why tag the whole 10 seasons for 1 episode?

Sorry was typing while Ranger answered. Still DUMB to me.

This is my favorite series of all time. Though I gotta admit, it should have ended after season 8.

We are in the middle of the 8th season now.
We started with Atlantis, then too much had to be explained so we started SG-1 for background then we will go back.

Did everybody start rewatching this at the same time? I'm in season 8 as well.

There is an edited version of the pilot out there I am fairly certain, I am surprised that Netflix did not run with that version.

Okay, Sha're was stripped bare on the Netflix version of the pilot.
And so they tagged the whole series for nudity.

GREAT, GREAT franchise. I've heard that of all the sci-fi movies, tv series etc., Stargate is the one closest to reality.

The shows are free on that movie123 website.

If they created a "MacGyver SG-1", that would be off the charts.

The first few seasons of Stargate SG-1 aired on Showtime and they were requested to add it. They also filmed a version of that scene without nudity that they used whenever the episode played on other channels.

I love the SG franchise more than Star Trek or Wars.

Own all of it, plus the movies

The first time I watched SG-1, was back before streaming and Netflix sent the DVDs in the mail. I had already watched most of Atlantis, and seen bits/pieces of SG-1. Imagine my complete surprise when I finally started from the beginning and watched the pilot.

Same. And given what became of those others, it's definitely no contest.

Sadly that nudity did not involve Dr./Captain/Major Samantha Carter

Just finished the series finale earlier. Thank god there's a movie to tie it all up. That's seriously how they ended the show?!

SyFy doesn't really treat their shows well. I think all 3 Stargate shows were cancelled while being the top rated show on the network.

Saw the original movie but that's it. So do these series stand up or is there a lot of nostalgia in here?
Fenrir

I think they stand up well considering how long it has been since they aired, but they definitely show some age. The story telling for SG1 and Atlantis are more monster of the week than a major overarching story driven narrative and the visuals can look dated but the humor and characters are just as good today as they were when they aired.

I loved Universe as well but understand a lot of the complaints especially those regarding the more soap opera level drama it had at times. The main scifi narrative of the show was great and I am sad we likely never get a conclusion.

I love the SG1 series, but just started Atlantis. I think it holds up well and the writing is damned good in my opinion.

I read that Atlantis was cancelled after the Canadian dollar increased in value compared to the USD. Since it was all filmed in Vancouver, it put a serious financial hurt on the show.

I googled looking for information about the cancellation/non-renewal and ran across an article that Cliff Simon who played Ba'al died in March from a kiteboarding accident.

Universe was also filmed in Vancouver after Atlantis was cancelled so not sure how accurate that is although I suppose maybe they were willing to fund 1 science fiction show but now 2 and chose Universe.

I struggle to think of a decent show Syfy allowed to finish on its own terms honestly.

I think having a full time Air Force rep on hand throughout the show was huge. Air Force saw it as excellent recruiting/positive media

We have reached Season 8 of SG-1, you can see the handwriting on the wall for SG: Atlantis, which was the first show we start watching a few years ago. When things got too confusing, we went back and watched the Movie, now going through SG-1 then back to Atlantis and as far as it stays interesting.

For SG first timers:
We started and watched the first seasons on Hulu and switched around 3-5 to Netflix.
These shows are good clean SciFi, but beware especially of the first episode if watching on Netflix as there is full frontal female nudity (as mentioned above).
Don't expect a full explanation of how they got away with what they did at the end of every episode, sometimes they just fade to black and you can fill in the rest. The principle part of the story dominates which is more important.
Most of the stories are pretty well written and planned out with good loop backs to characters. Honestly one of the best SciFi shows we have seen. Of course there are some dud episodes (cough ... Dom Deluise ... cough), but most of those seem more like fillers or flashback clip shows.
Great way to watch something we have not seen and watch with our son.

One caveat if you watch SG1 seasons 8, 9, and 10. The season 10 - and SERIES - finale leaves a few loose ends/unanswered questions. So much so, that there were TWO stand-alone DVD movies to wrap these up.

You will want to watch these: "Continuum" and "The Ark of Truth". Luckily I still have these on DVD, because I have no idea where to stream these from or if you even can.

PlutoTV app has both for free I believe and all the major digital rental/purchase storefronts have them to rent at least.
