You have to. Rockstar are scumbags and Hollywood types are elitists. Obviously not all of them but it is a stereotype for a reason. These people are so far separated from reality that it would be lunacy to try and base your Fandom on their actions or beliefs.

How is that a hypothetical? Do you not believe any of the accusations? He did it and you still like Beat it.
Nugent was also a pedo but Stranglehold is a pretty good song.

If you held music and Hollywood stars accountable for being the piece of **** people they are, there wouldn't be anything left to ever listen to or watch.

As a hypothetical: Let's say that all of the Michael Jackson allegations were shown to me to be absolutely 100% true, I'd probably still consider "Beat It" to be one of my favorite songs.

Before the documentary about Neverland ranch i was able to convince myself it was ok to listen to MJ.

after watching it and realizing that If even 1/100 of the stuff in that doc are true i feel just fine never allowing that dude ever play on my speakers again.

more than that, i wouldn't mind dying, just so i can could go to hell, find MJ, and torture the s*** out of that scumbag from here to eternity

Let's be honest, Beat It is cool because of the guitar work by Steve Lukather and Eddie Van Halen.

Tom Cruise is a batsh*t crazy Scientologist.

But damn, he knows how to make great movies. So yes, I can remove art from the artist.

Yeah, also keep in mind that most art isn't one person. Take the Cosby show, it was great, and there were a ton of writers and other actors not named Bill that helped make it great. Theo, Rudy, and Venessa shouldn't lose out on royalty checks just because their TV dad was a sex predator.

Also Beat It owes much of its popularity to EVH and a cool video.

Just make sure you back up any support for immorality by watching a couple of episodes of 7th Heaven.

It really sucks for people who worked with people like MJ or Cosby. They end up losing a bunch of money when people boycott. I remember reading something about the actor who played Eldon on The Cosby Show having to bag groceries after The Cosby Show got cancelled from every network.

Personally, I have no problem separating the art from the artist, although it's definitely easier for me since I don't really know anything about these people's personal lives.

That, and along all of the rest of MJ's music, it's Quincy Jones' songwriting and production. That's how I justify still listening to MJ, I'm really just here for Q

This isn't true. The Cosby Show ended 30 yrs ago. Eldon, who was at best the 10th -15th biggest character on the show, hadn't had much acting work over those 30 yrs. He was working at Trader Joe's in 2018 when someone took pictures of him and it went viral. Cosby going to jail had nothing to do with it and neither did cancel culture.
The idea, though, that the 10th most important member of a sitcom from the 80s was getting big Nick at Nite residuals in 2017 is kind of funny.

The fact that we care enough about Entertainment to keep this board happening indicates that we're all good at separating the art from the artist. There are plenty of bad apples and great artists from Aggieland, but generally the A&M culture probably clashes with the Hollywood and professional music production culture.

I believe great art comes from a higher place than the human who channels it, anyway. For some reason God chooses some weird folks to give us great music and movies.

While he wasn't raking in millions, I am sure Cosby residuals for a regular cast member were decent.

Wait, what? The A&M culture? I was there in the 90's also and there were plenty of Aggies who identified with what movies and music were representing then, before and now. That statement is a bit sanctimonious, as a character from the Shield once said.

Does it make you feel weird that your favorite song by a pedophile is called....Beat It?

He has a couple of songs pre-Thriller that I can't help but listen to when they come on. I love them.

And I think Tom cruise is a good example. Insane that he's a Scientologist but I will watch any and all movies he makes. He's a badass.

Bagging groceries had nothing to do with the Cosby show cancelled on every network. He was doing it much prior. He's since gotten some opportunities after has Trader Joes job got revealed and has had some success.

I struggle with this a lot. In the end, I can usually do it for musical artists but have much harder time doing it for actors. I loved The Cosby Show growing up but when I scroll past it on the guide now I can't bring myself to click on it. Same with That 70's Show. Since all the Danny Masterson rape accusations came out I haven't been able to watch it again.

I think it's a sliding scale. At the most extreme end, I'd have a hard time appreciating a painting by Hitler, because Hitler. Not nearly as extreme, but I don't think I can appreciate Cosby's work these days (and I used to love his comedy specials), in part because his crimes are the antithesis of his long-time "America's dad" persona. Had he been arrested for something like tax evasion, I'd have no problem continuing to laugh at his jokes.

On the other end of the spectrum, I think Mark Ruffalo is a knucklehead and a kook, but he's not a criminal, and all actors are knuckleheads and kooks to a certain extent. I can still enjoy his work in the Avengers. I feel the same way about most of the politically outspoken people in the industry - I roll my eyes when Taylor Swift starts talking about politics, but I can enjoy 1989 as one of the greatest pop albums of this century. The exception would be when the politics becomes the person's entire persona, i.e., someone like Kathy Griffin; was never a huge fan of hers, but these days she'd be an instant tune-out.

Michael Jackson lies in the uncomfortable middle of that scale. He was never convicted of anything, but it's a fair bet that he diddled kids. I guess with him I compromise by liking Thriller and Off the Wall, but not really any of his work after he get super weird.

I am a huge Cryin' Adams fan. It's arguably my worst personality trait. I'll always listen to his music but not sure if I could support him by buying a concert ticket.
