I enjoyed her music for the most part but I never understood why she turned on that fake Texas accent at various times across the years. That always struck me as very phony.

Anywho, from one old native Austinite to another, RIP Nanci. We'll miss ya'.

Damn, that sucks. She got her big break way back in the early 80s or late 70s at my uncle's independent record company in Austin. I was just a kid, but we'd go see her, Lucinda, and one or two other bands that my uncle was producing.

My dad introduced me to her music when I was in elementary school. Late Night Grand Hotel is one of my favorite albums.

Knew Nanci in high school. Always playing and singing. Never noticed a fake TX accent. Truly nice lady and fun to be around.

Watch the videos posted of her above and then go watch other videos and interviews of her. It comes and goes.
Now don't get me wrong, I think many of us are guilty of "cleaning" up our accent a bit depending on the circumstance but it's pretty clear she put on the dog many times over the years.
