I love this movie.
It is so mid 80's.
It is perfect.

Plus great, great music.

Quote:

The revival of 1987 cult classic vampire feature The Lost Boys continues. After the CW opted that Rob Thomas' pilot was a no-go, Warner Bros. is prepping a new take with screenwriter Randy McKinnon and Jonathan Entwistle directing, Deadline has confirmed.
A Quiet Place franchise actor Noah Jupe will star alongside It actor Jaeden Martell. Automatik's Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger are producing. Zac Frognowski and Josh Glick are EPs.
The original movie, which was billed as a comedy horror, and grossed over $32M at the domestic B.O., follows two brothers, who after moving to a new town, discover that it's occupied by vampires.

Hollywood Reporter first had the news regarding Lost Boys moving forward as a feature.
In The Lost Boys TV version, when a mother and her Gen Z sons move to the seaside town where she grew up, they discover there's a sinister reason the local cool kids sleep all day, party all night, never grow up and never get old. Family bonds are tested as the brothers find themselves on opposite sides of a mythological struggle. It's based on the 1987 cult classic movie that revolutionized how we think about vampires. The series was a longtime passion project for Thomas and the CW. The pilot was already in production when the pandemic shut down all filming in mid-March 2020. The CW got to see some footage, but opted to move ahead then with Kung-Fu instead (According to Deadline, because of parity between the CW's affiliated studios, Warner Bros TV and CBS TV Studios, the two WBTV-produced pilots were vying for one slot).

Money. Pandering. Don't see it, it won't make money and they will stop doing it.

This is producers saying "hey it worked then. It'll work now."

Best vampire movies of the 80's:

1. Fright Night
2. Lost Boys
3. Near Dark

We got the unnecessary remake of #1 and are getting #2.

They better not touch Near Dark.

I was going to add From Dusk Till Dawn but that was 1996 well after the 80s.

Oddly that is one of the only Tarentino movies I like.

Never seen the original, but those kids they cast look about 15. Are they supposed to be as intimidating at 80's Kiefer?

It always sucks when they do remakes because, as we all know, the original movie is then deleted from existence, we can never watch it again, and they force us to buy tickets to new version. So unfair.

While I think people overreact as Hollywood has been remaking movies since the 30s, the anger isn't about the remake itself, but Hollywood making less original movies.

I have never seen the "Fright Night" remake even though the cast they got is outstanding.

Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, David Tennant and Toni Collette in any other movie would have gotten my money. But the original "Fright Night" is so damn perfect, I won't watch a remake.

I'm guessing those who own the rights or otherwise can profit are looking to increase their revenue as the younger generations are probably not watching the original?

Odds one of the brothers will be gay, and there will be some racial undertone?

And yes at Near Dark - Paxton is greatness as a psycho hillbilly vamp

The original Fright Night was a great movie, but I actually prefer the latter one with Colin Farrell as he and Anton Yelchin have amazing performances.

Also, for those that haven't seen Near Dark, you are in for a treat.

I'm still kind of perplexed I've never heard of Near Dark. And I've also never seen the Fright Night remake because I had no desire to.

Halloween is my favorite time of year so i am adding these all to the list to watch with my wife. She always says she WANTS to watch horror movies, so we will see. First up is Malignant though.

Make sure you include John Carpenter's The Thing in that rotation. I watch that movie every Halloween. Best horror movie ever.

Near Dark was the last film the DeLaurentis Group made before they went bankrupt (thanks, Transformers: the Movie) so it got basically zero advertising and almost no theatrical release.

I only knew about it because at the time I was an avid reader of "Fangoria" magazine and they were giving it amazing hype, so I sought it out at the video store.

Scroll down to the 9th post on the page, by Kevin the 3-legged dog, who does a great job of summing up the early development process of the first movie...

https://texags.com/forums/13/topics/3192963/7

The original screenplay/idea was basically a take on Peter Pan and his "lost boys" (hence the title) and was meant to star a pre-teen cast. It was pitched as "The Goonies with vampires." So, if anything, it sounds like this version is honoring the original/intended take.

Also, Noah Jupe is a hell of a young actor. He's the kid in The Quiet Place franchise, Ford v Ferrari, No Sudden Move, and Honey Boy. He's well on his way to being a huge star, while the other young actor is one of the kids from It and a ton of other stuff.

I actually think this could be pretty cool if done right.
