This is a prequel to Army of the Dead (zack snyder). He didnt direct it, but he produced it.

my wife was really interested in this so we watched it and enjoyed it. she hadn't watched army of the dead. we enjoyed it. upper echelon of S2S movies i would say, but so was tomorrow war and i'm not going to pretend that was "good."

then she wanted to know how it ended up for him in AotD and said she would watch that.

not happy with me the next evening.

Just watched it. Was better than Army of The Dead. No idea why, if you are planning on building a universe around this property, why you would do the first movie with no real emotional attachment to a bunch of characters, and then do prequel movies after to try and build up an emotional attachment to each character.

Would you watch a heist movie with a weird german lead, then watch a zombie flick supposedly in the same universe?

Hell yeah. And how much better would it be if after 5 or 6 movies only hinting at a zombie apocalypse, you finally had army of the dead? Hopefully you have firm casting picks at that point too, so you literally don't have to CGI someone in completely like they did.
