For those who wish to discuss the series without talking book spoilers. For those of us who love the books, please keep spoiler discussion in the other thread (or we can start another).

First three episodes drop Friday morning. Then one a week for total of 8 episodes.

I've read all the books about five years ago. The wife is halfway through the first book and she's at least excited about the show now, so that's good. Hope it's good!

How many episodes are y'all planning on giving this? I'm not gonna lie, I don't think this will be good and I'm not sure how long it'll hold me if it's not.

From the reviews I've read I think the changes from the books are going to tick me off too much to enjoy the show.

Most of the super fans of the books who have reviewed the first episodes seem very pleased with what was offered. But, they also said that if you are looking for a scene by scene remake of the books, you will be disappointed


I mentioned this in the other thread, but I am approaching this as another turning of the wheel. They will hit the high points, but how they get from point a to point b will be different. And I am excited about this because maybe it will rekindle the magic I felt when I read the books for the first time starting in 1990. I really don't know what to expect.

It's been so long I couldn't tell you what happened but I stopped at 5 or 6 I think.

Yea this spoiler free thread will hopefully pickup a lot with newcomers! Would be the sign of a good show with promise.

What about those who are currently making there way through the slog.

Have not read the books, but I am looking forward to the show!

Just finished the books on Audible last week. One chapter was 9 hours long! It was talking too long to read and listening to them was much easier for me.

The previews look good and I think it's impossible to mimic the details in the books because there are way too many characters and story lines. I expect several characters to be combined and some story lines to be dropped.

I'm pretty happy with the casting so far, we'll just have to see how the personalities come through.

Looking forward to the discussion here as the show kicks off!

Holy crap! I did not realize this. I thought it might be released at midnight but in one of the U.S. time zones.

Watched episode 1. Haven't read the books and have been avoiding anything about the books, plots etc.
The first episode wasn't bad, but slower and less sci-fi than I expected (albeit blindly). Will definitely keep watching though.

I enjoyed the episode. It's interesting to see what changes they made but also see how they can still get to the same destination through the changes.

Maybe sci/fi is too "strong" a word. Guess with the little I knew I was expecting more around the concept of time than there was. It was much more linear. But that's the risk/reward of going in blind.

You saw some wheels, so 50/50 on the title paying off in the first episode.

A lot of the casting doesnt really make sense, visually, but if the actual characteristics and mannerisms that matters a lot more.
We'll see

Watched the first episode. Interesting enough, but really don't like the way the CGI looks in this. The CGI buildings and magic look terrible. For the $100 million this show cost, I would've expected some better effects.

Lantern scene/monologue was really good in Episode 1

I agree about the cgi but I don't think 100 million goes as far as you think it does for an 8 episode season for effects for a fantasy series. I think is why we rarely get all the stories we love on the small screen because effects cost so much. We all have a fantasy series we want to see on the screen but they sit in limbo for years….

I am going to count my blessings that I get some new fantasy series on tv and try not to be super nit picky about it. I think the close ups of the trollocs were great, but any time they were fighting or running was bleh. Same with a lot of the magic.

At least it wasn't season 1 umbrella academy bad cgi which I still love the show so ehh

Excited to finally get this show going! Hope it hooks a lot of non book readers.

Pretty slow so far. The characters seem a little cut and paste without much depth. I'm hoping it improves, but I'm finding it hard to stay interested thus far.

And the CGI was laughably bad. The prosthetics for the Trollocks and the special effects when Rosamund Pike was using her magic looked like something out of a 1990's network TV Sci-Fi show.
