Saw him in Dallas. Set list included ACDC's Highway to Hell……yeah, I'm not kidding. Merry Christmaswe're gonna sing about going to hell.

So I had a beer to get over that monstrosity, then he plays Freebird. And it was the shlttiest version of the shlttiest song in the world.

Of course, the crowd loved his classics and cheered loud for any song from his first few albums. I guess he thinks crappy cover songs sell tickets?

Probably the last time I spend money to see him live.

Seeing him tonight in SA. That doesn't sound too promising.

I got an email from HOB or Ticketb***ards to get tickets for his show and had read enough on here to decide to skip it for sure.

Sounds like he's got some issues.

Went to the cosmic Christmas show pre-covid. It was a great time.

Most years he does a pretty standard REK show (with a few weird ones thrown in).

But every once in a while he'll get a wild hair and do a "Variety Show" of sorts and those can really be hit or miss.

We go to the show at Bass Hall in FW every year and I most times it's a blast but I know at least 1 recent year I came away really disappointed.

We've gone to this Christmas show a couple of times in the past 7-8 years, and yeah, it usually involves them mostly playing a good number of the usual REK hits, but then each band member taking lead to cover some other artist (and usually in costume). So basically 5-6 covers sprinkled throughout the night. First time we saw it was pretty solid with them covering late 70s/early 80s country, which was actually well done. But then the next time we went a few years later and it was some pretty shaky classic rock covers

Good summary. Exactly what we experienced.

Yeah, sounds like every other REK Christmas show I've seen. I thought most people knew the schtick going in, but I guess not.

The Christmas shows are different. The one I saw had a comedy duo as the opening act and REK was cutting up more than usual. Kinda like going to a live taping of Hee Haw.

They are fun shows and I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't the only show he plays in Houston each year. Would love him to play a regular REK show here sometime. I stopped going to the Christmas shows a couple years ago, they were just so crowded they weren't fun.

I was at the HOB show on Wednesday.

I hadn't been to a Christmas show before so didn't know the covers were coming.

I had a fantastic time. I thought all the covers were pretty fun, he played his hits, band was good, HOB is a great venue for this type of show in my opinion. Everyone in our group seemed to enjoy it.

I've always wondered how much he and his band pull in from this Christmas circuit every year. Go do 20-25 shows, have a little fun mixing it up with the covers, and pull in a decent chunk of change to get you thru part of next year

So basically an entire concert in the spirit of 'Merry Christmas From The Family'?

I reviewed the contract for a client's private Christmas show REK performed. They did well for a one-night show and some pictures.

I saw REK perform New Year's Eve at Gruene Hall many years ago. So drunk he could barely sing.

To be fair he can barely sing sober. Still great music.

Went to the Houston show last night. Great time. Enjoyed the covers. The one dude who plays the mandolin and like 6 other instruments was great. We've been going to his Christmas show for 5 years now, would have been 6 but stupid ass Covid. Other than $13 beers and some dips hit in front of us and their brand spanking new, still have the cavenders tags on their entire wardrobe it was a great time.

To be perfectly fair the theme was "The Road to Christmas" and I've endured some that were definitely Griswold-esque on their way to hell.

I love the Christmas shows and go every year. I think it is an opportunity for the band to have some fun and show off their other talents as well as do "something different". His band is extremely talented, though less so now that Rich Brotherton (guitar) and Marty Muse (pedal steel) have retired from touring.

I would agree with you guys from Houston that if that is the only show he does in the area it would be disappointing. I go see REK every chance I get so the Christmas shows are fun and different for me as well.

Can't wait for Dec 30th at Bass Hall.

Looks like another New Year's Eve Eve without REK at Bass - looking liking the show will get cancelled.

I'm not sure REK could even do that and still be entertaining at this point. At least not enough to spend money on tickets to watch it. That band covers up a lot of weaknesses.

I think they'd normally postpone it like they did the other stops but Hamilton will be at Bass in February and so no open dates they can commit to.

Sounds like OP did not understand the premise of the Christmas show or Merry Christmas from the family.

I would think that the costumed band members or multiple times of pointing out that the contributions from the band members were all road/travel themed songs would give it away.

The Aztec theatre show was a great time. At $25.00 per GA ticket, I could think of a lot worse ways to spend the evening.

Where else are you going to get covers of AC/DC, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Denver and Tyler Childers?
