Finished last night. My wife and I binged over the last few days.

It is long with nine one-hour episodes, and her accent is annoying, but all-in-all it is a crazy show.

It is in the same vein as the Tinder Swindler but her game was very public in snotty uber-rich art/fashion/socialite crowdin NYC.
Staff - take out the trash.

I love it and have been recommending it to everyone I know. I just have 1 episode left!

We didn't make it through the first episode. The accent is absolutely unbearable. I assume it's part of the underlying theme (nobody knowing who she really is), but it comes across so poorly. I just don't understand how anyone could be sitting on set, or watching first cuts, and not say something.

I watched it. The supporting cast outside of Ozark girl is great especially Scriberia.

I liked The Girl across the street looking through the window better.

The accent is pretty spot on in my opinion, like it or not. Its a mix of German, Russian, and American English with a kind of party girl inflection.

Wife has been watching and I've half watched some of them. Accent is real bad but then again I never bought the hype about her on Ozark.

It's not a terrible story if you've run out of shows.

Good article sifting through what really happened and what was altered for the series.

Yeah, we finished the fist episode but I stopped there. Told my wife it can be her show if she chooses, don't think she's watched anymore, though. The accent is bad, but I just found the episode really, really boring.

I don't know. Seemed like way too much back story on a reporter and her going against her boss for a show that's supposed to be about a con artist.

Once we got passed the first 2-3 episodes it was more interesting. None of the characters are likeable enough to care that they were duped. I absolutely disliked the journalist. She was a whiny ***ch. She was just as self absorbed as the others. Her husband was a saint putting up with her crap.

Ruth is great in Ozark. She's the star of the series imo.

I watched the first episode last night, and that's probably all I'll watch. I feel like I'm supposed to know already what the story is, and honestly, I've never heard anything about it. I can't figure out what the big crime is. I get the girl made up a bunch of identities, and I guess she hung out with a bunch of high society people, and maybe she got hired at a hedge fund, or maybe just went to some really hard to get into club, I'm not really sure. Anyways, none of this sounds like this incredible story the reporter is claiming. It seems like maybe it's a story people in NY, who know all the names, think is a big deal, but watching, I felt like I went out with a group of people who all know each other, and are just telling inside stories without cluing me in on anything.

I definitely am aware that I'm in the minority with my lower opinion of her acting. I'm not saying she's bad by any stretch… just not as amazing as most think.

The makeup and wardrobe person responsible for her perm deserves at least half the credit for Ruth's character

I have to agree, she gets so much praise for Ozark, and she is good, but she's not a standout to me like she seems to be to all the award voters.

Personally I think Rhea Seehorn has been better in Better Call Saul and deserved the Emmy over her every single year.

I feel like it's entertainment 101 to capture your audience. My wife wanted to watch this thinking it's a show about a con artist and how she does it. We were both so bored that she got on her phone and I started doing some stuff around the house.

Why in the world would they think the first episode would be a good time for background on a reporter who everyone seems to hate?

We had lunch with some family this weekend and her brother said "stick it out, it starts to get better after episode 3." Wtf would I "stick it out" to hopefully get to a point where I like the show. Not enough time in the day to spend another hour on a show I didn't like.

If you have Hulu, there's a 20 20 episode interviewing the real Anna and Rachel. Real Rachel much cuter than actress portrayal.

This is pretty much what I was getting at. Yes, I only watched 10% of the show, but also I watched an hour. An hour is plenty of time to decide if I'm interested in a show. I should understand who the main characters are, and why I should be interested in them.

As a contrast, I started watching The Tinder Swindle today. I only watched about 15 minutes, and I've already met two of the victims, and have a decent understanding of who they are. I don't know all the details, and I don't even know what the scam is yet, but in 15 minutes I've seen enough to be invested and I'm interested in what happens.

I've now watched I believe 6 episodes. It's still mediocre at best. I don't understand the praise, but to each their own. Ultimately, if you like it, that's all that matters.

Engulfed this series in a few days. It's fun but to me it's always fun to watch an outsider come from nowhere in an attempt to fool all the uppity snobs of the high society scene. She really did do what the series suggest. The writer working through the case with her group of co-workers in scriberia was great fun. If I were a writer I would want to be in that group of skeptics and outcasts.

Her attempts to buy a several hundred million dollar piece of NYC real estate and turn it into a space for curated art/art studio/hotel/restaurant is ballsy as hell. And then there's Anthony Edward barely recognizable in his soft middle aged body as the attorney who is captured by Anne's vision and youth awaking each morning with a little more zest for life as progress is made with Anna.

It does make the viewer try to figure out how and why she is the way that she is. Which is what the latter episodes are exploring.

Swindled podcast episode 31 if you are interested in a one hour version.

Great podcast to pass the commute to if you can get past all the jabs the narrator takes at capitalism and conservatism but it's usually only like once an episode.

Agreed. Anna Chlumsky's acting is way over the top as well.

I know the trend is to drag out what should be a two part mini-series into 8 episodes, but I don't need to see the obnoxious reporter giving birth.

What's weird is the the actual reporter is nothing like that in real life. Why Shonda Rhimes felt the need to create a new character in a story with some crazy over the top ones is beyond me.

My wife stopped episode 8 today with a "Wait, is the reporter the girl from My Girl?".

That made us feel old.

Enjoyed the series overall but absolutely HATED the last episode. For some reason, they pivoted at the end and decided to make Anna the sympathetic character. Also felt incongruous that her attorney's wife, who'd been mostly supportive through the series, suddenly turned and demanded a family vacation at the end of the trial.

And yes, Anna Chlumsky's acting was way over the top, especially her facial expressions. It reminded me of how people using sign language use their faces to convey emotion and emphasis. It's weird because she was really good and nuanced in VEEP.
