Baz Lurhman flick. Three years in the making. Tom Hanks as Colonel Parker is trippy.
The trailer is, well, intriguing. I'm a huge Elvis fan and will see this on opening night. Not sure if they used Elvis' vocals but if not, whoever did his vocals deserves a GD Oscar just for that impression!!

I'll see it for sure. Went down a YouTube rabbit hole one night watching some of his last performances where he was sweating like a pig, totally wasted, slurring his words and talking gibberish. Very sad.

Will definitely watch this.

That being said, when the trailer came on the other day and I was walking through the living room, all I heard was Forrest Gump talking about Elvis. Couldn't shake it.

I never thought about it during Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but he looks a lot like Tim Riggins in some of those scenes

Man,

Covid really did a number on Tom Hanks

Looks great. Elvis has been dead for 45 years and is still as big of a legend as the world has ever known. The actor has a young Travolta/Val Kilmer vibe.

The guy who plays Elvis looks really good.

Tom Hanks does not immediately strike me as doing a very good version of Col. Parker.

Thanks for posting this.

I really hope they have the scene where he boards at the Alabama home of a low IQ kid that ends up overcoming that low iq and plays a part in so many vital historical events.

With the rise of TV streaming platforms, it's hard not to think that biopics are better off as limited series now. Maybe you don't get Tom hanks, but you don't have to tell a man's life story in 2.5 hours.

Bump because I just saw the trailer in the theater and I'm in. The actor that plays Elvis has me sold.

In June 1977, he was nervous, slurring words, and making corny jokes (like in the intro to "Unchained Melody"), but go back to his earliest live performances in 1954 and '55, and he also stuttered, slurred, and made corny jokes (before and after phenomenal performances).

The talking gibberish during "Are You Lonesome, Tonight?" was a long-running bit, done off and on since 1969.
He did misuse and abuse prescription drugs, but that June 1977 AYLT performance, in particular, is often shown out of context.

Hello everyone,
I haven't posted in quite some time because there really isn't much to say, as I am and will forever be mourning the loss of my son. Navigating through this hideous grief that absolutely destroyed and shattered my heart and my soul into almost nothing has swallowed me whole.
Not much else aside from my other 3 children gets my time and attention anymore.
However, that being said, I do want to take a moment to let you know that I have seen Baz Luhrmann's movie "Elvis" twice now, and let me tell you that it is nothing short of spectacular.
Absolutely exquisite.
Austin Butler channeled and embodied my father's heart and soul beautifully.
In my humble opinion, his performance is unprecedented and FINALLY done accurately and respectfully.
(If he doesn't get an Oscar for this, I will eat my own foot, haha.)
You can feel and witness Baz's pure love, care, and respect for my father throughout this beautiful film, and it is finally something that myself and my children and their children can be proud of forever.
What moved me to tears as well was watching Riley and Harper, and Finley afterwards, all 3 visibly overwhelmed in the best way possible way, and so filled with pride about their grandfather and his legacy in a way that I have not previously experienced.
It breaks my heart that my son isn't here to see it. He would have absolutely loved it as well.
I can't tell you enough how much I love this film and I hope you love it too.
Everyone involved poured their hearts and souls into it, which is evidenced in their performances.
Baz, your utter genius combined with your love and respect for my father and this project is just so beautiful and so inspiring. I know I'm being repetitive, but I don't care, Thank you for setting the record straight in such a deeply profound and artistic way.
Love you ~LMP

I know someone working on this who swears by it, and the buzz from those who have seen extended footage (around 30 min worth) is incredibly high. Could be a huge crowd-pleaser come June.

How does one make a 2 and a half hour film that covers the entire life of Elvis? Read careless love and last train to Memphis instead. Skipping this!

Prob because most people don't want to watch a 45 hour long movie? I doubt the idea is to capture every single detail of his entire life...

That rendition is straight out of the '68 Comeback Special. Pretty darn good actually. Though, happy to hear that it sounds like the later performances may actually use Elvis' singing.

Seeing this tomorrow night. A friend of mine is in charge of the marketing campaign for the movie, and is taking a group of us to some preview screening. Will report back.

There are definite perks to that life. I definitely thought he stole a lot of the scenes he was in in Once Upon a Time
He's following this movie up with Masters of the Air, and then an important role in the 2nd Dune movie...crazy run of movies
