It's their "Tribute to Kings" tour in which they do a set of originals and then the entirety of Rush's "A Farewell to Kings."

I haven't seen them live in just over 30 years when I saw them in February '92 opening for (ironically/coincidentally) Rush.

Pretty stoked.

That 92 Rush show didn't happen to be at The Summit in Houston did it?

Me too. Although I had the opposite reaction than the OP to Primus. That was the first time I had heard Primus and I thought they sounded like ass. My brother and those around us were like who the **** are these guys? They started to get booed pretty loud which apparently is a "thing" at Primus shows but I guarantee you at least half of the boos at the Summit that night weren't because people were fans.

That being said I'm interested to hear how the Rush set goes.

It's been 30 years. I don't remember much of Primus from that show but I do remember that they launched into Zeppelin's "Kashmir" and took the roof off the place.

No they're very good at playing other peoples music. They do a great cover of Sabbath NIB. I'm sure the Rush set will be great.

I actually don't know much of their original stuff outside Jerry Was A Race Car Driver and the song about Winona Ryders beaver. Ill give them another try. Any suggestions?

Just start with "They Can't All Be Zingers" and listen all the way through.

And to be fair I nearly bought a ticket to the Houston stop last year just to hear the Rush set. But my wife looked at me funny when I asked her if she wanted to go and my friends aren't nearly as cool as I am so I would have had to go alone.

Great show! Pretty great set list of hits, followed by "A Farewell to Kings" which was done REALLY well, then an encore of "Tommy the Cat".

I actually thought of you during the show because during their performance of "Cygnus X-1" the video they were projecting had a spaceship/tugboat looking thing named "Rocinante". Not too often you find folks that dig Primus, Rush, and Cervantes.

I had VIP Q&A to the Houston show I bought back before March 2020 before the whole world got canceled and ended up not being able to catch the rescheduled tour and was super bummed.

Regarding Claypool, love Primus (the show in 3D at SMU was particularly cool) but so many of his other projects are great. Flying Frog Brigade, Bucket of Bernie Brains, Claypool Lennon Delirium (Sean Lennon), and most recently he's been jamming a lot with Billy Strings and they've formed a great friendship. I'm almost certain there will be some sort of project coming between those two that should be phenomenal.

Glad you enjoyed it OP. One of the top 3 bassists on the planet imo.
