First thing that is awesome! Second, I'm going to attempt to write one. I'm just very curious at what word processor you used. Did you use Word / Google Docs or some other specialty program like Scrivner.

I googled it but there is hardly any info out there that I could see.

My first thought was the Dumplin thread, which is more of the movie process than the book process:

Couple threads on the History board though:

I have been writing a work of history non-fiction the last year of conducting archival research and citing from about 400 sources so far.

I just use word and save the documents in three different computers/thumb drive.

Just make sure don't do like my brother did on his last book and don't bother keeping an offline or cloud backup and have to start over when you drop your laptop and hard crash the drive

Damn!

I have everything in google drive with a two TB plan. In fact, if they weren't so crappy I would be just fine with a chromebook.

I self-publish as a side gig. I use both Google Docs and Word, but I do have Scrivner, which I mostly use for worldbuilding. Reedsy has a decent text editor as well (and also a bunch of other resources for self-publishing). At the end of the day, though, they all get you to the same place, and it's more about what you feel the most comfortable in using.

I can't speak to the traditional publishing route, but if you want to go self-publishing, there's a fantastic group on Facebook (I know, I know) called 20BooksTo50K that has a ton of great resources, as well as a large community that shares in their successes and failures to help others.

Thanks!

I have written several small novellas (50-100 pages) to practice but am looking to get something published. Definitely don't want to get rich but there are a crapton of books on amazon for .99-$2.99 I would be happy with. Just a hobby now that I'm retiring soon and need more hobbies and a part time job.

It's just fun to do in my off time and I'm learning about outlining and now looking to focus on pacing and better dialogue. I'm years away.

Everything so far is on google docs but Looking at buying Scrivner as it's only $49 so not a back breaker if I can't get into it.

Gotcha. It started out as a hobby for me, slightly above that now.

Scrivener is definitely useful for organization, and if you go too long, Google Docs lags like hell. I don't believe Scrivener has any cloud storage, so going with what someone mentioned above, definitely make sure you're backing it up if you do decide to start working out of it. Google Drive works for this, or Dropbox is another one that's readily available and easy to use.
