Excited to watch this one. It's in theaters in a couple of days but can't tell if it will be available to stream anywhere.

Deep in the Heart is a visually stunning celebration of what makes Texas unique its diverse landscapes and remarkable wildlife behavior that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Told through the eyes of wildlife species ranging from the mysterious blind catfish to the elusive mountain lion, the story follows our ever-changing relationship with the natural world and showcases our ability to destroy, conserve, and recover wildlife and the habitat we mutually depend on. Narrated by Matthew McConaughey and featuring state-of-the-art cinematography, this family-friendly film journeys from the highest peaks in West Texas, through our aquifers, rivers, and bays, and deep into the Gulf of Mexico. Deep in the Heart aims to conserve our remaining wild places, to show the connectivity of water and wildlife, and to recognize Texas' conservation importance on a continental scale.

Ben Masters is a filmmaker and writer specializing in wildlife and adventure stories. He is most known for directing the feature-length documentary The River and The Wall (SXSW 2019 award winner) and for producing Unbranded (Mountainfilm 2015 Audience Award winner). Masters studied wildlife biology at Texas A&M University and founded Fin and Fur Films, a production company specializing in short films featuring wildlife research, conservation, and activism.

Literally just got out. Notes below:

- Nearly two hours long
- Matthew McOnnadjfhdhsaj is the narrator; so whatever your disposition to him is…he's the narrator
- This is basically Planet Earth for Texas
- HIGHLIGHT 1: Snakes eating bats
- HIGHLIGHT 2: Me, a semi-experienced hiker who is terrified of bears and mountain lions, being really worried about the portion of the doc where they show the traps/cages for said predators
- HIGHLIGHT 3: Seeing my old apartment in downtown Houston in the part of the doc where they say that urban dev is destroying our natural habitat
- LOWLIGHT 1: Narrator adding some extra sauce when it wasn't needed
- LOWLIGHT 2: Nearly two hours long

A great love letter to Texas. Loved the Big Bend dark sky shots. Some of the shots were Nat Geo level in that I really wonder how they actually got it and how long they combed over footage. 8/10. 8.5/10 if you love Texas.

I'm fairly left/liberal compared to most other Ags, but I can't front…the sound of that ******bag's voice for two hours wore on us. I hate him.

They couldn't get Tommy Lee Jones? Josh Brolin? Megan Thee Stallion???

He's a good dude and a great actor. I know he's a horn, but if he was an Aggie he would be loved by the masses on here. I hear this was a great documentary

I'd love to watch it, but its kind of curious that they went to theaters with it.

What's the logic in that versus streaming? Trying to get Oscar nom?

Not too sure. On one hand, I will preach the gospel of Texas' dark skies to anyone who will listen and if they can't make it out to Big Bend, the theater is the next best option. On the other hand, Barack Obama went straight to the small screen for a better/equivalent documentary.

He roots for the longhorns, so therefore he's not gonna be liked by many Ags.

The director and the main producer are Aggies so it's worth supporting.

Just watched this with my daughter. We both really enjoyed it, I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion. There is only one preachy part IMO and presents a more fair and balanced view than most other docs of this nature.

I enjoyed it as well, what amazing shots of nature and animals. We live in a beautiful state!

Did anyone else gasp each time a baby bat get snatched?

This aged poorly as though Mcconnawhatever read this and called up Joe Biden to ask if he could borrow his podium for a quick minute.

Just saw it. Outstanding.

McCaughahey, however you spell it, doesn't bother me though. Was interesting/cool to see someone I knew back in the day was the DP for the film.
