Obviously this is coming. Honestly, I am just hoping he lives long enough to finish Indy 5 (what is he now, 90+?)
John Williams is the GOAT. I know many chime in with Hans Zimmer, who is a damn fine composer in his own right, but seriously, how can anyone else ever hope to stack up to JW's library of works? This is akin to asking some MLB pitcher who throws hard to compare against Nolan Ryan. Cannot be done.
We all know of JW's most famous works in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman, Harry Potter, and Jurassic Park, but it's amazing how many "smaller" movies he did that are not so nearly well known.
The Patriot was mentioned above, that would be one that I'm thinking of. But also 70s movies like Black Sunday, The Towering Inferno, Earthquake, and The Poseidon Adventure. War movies like Midway (76), Empire of the Sun, and Schindler's List. Dramas like The Post, Munich, The Terminal, Nixon, JFK, and Lincoln. Comedies like 1941, The Witches of Eastwick, SpaceCamp, and Home Alone. He was all over the place with booming scores for action/scifi/fantasy movies to more reserved, quiet scores found in movies like Lincoln.
For me, it's hard to point to a particular favorite. Everything he did for Star Wars is fair game, but it's hard to overlook Superman, Indiana Jones, and Jaws as well.
