Someone probably realized it was a movie about soccer and pulled the plug before they sunk too much money into since they know Americans don't care about the sport.

They should come out and say what the allegations are. Everybody is assuming it was some sort of sexual abuse by the coach. But it seems the girls on the team still love him. They wouldn't do so if he was some sort of pedo-rapist.

It seems the allegations are just that certain aspects of the story were lifted from their true experiences without their permission. In other words, they want to get paid.

The article I read said it was due to "disturbing allegations". That seems to be a lot more sinister than them wanting to get paid.

No real insight, but weirdly enough, I've actually been working with the director of this project for the past few months now. She's directing a pilot for us for a series we just setup (though it'll probably be late '23/early '24 before it films, at the earliest). That said, she wasn't even allowed to tell us what this project was. We'd be on a zoom with her, and she'd be scouting in a different city, and a couple times people would ask what the project was, but she said the studio wasn't ready to announce it yet, so she had to remain tight-lipped. It wasn't until yesterday that we saw this news and realized this was the project. I haven't spoken to her yet, but I feel terrible for her and everyone else involved. I love McConaughey, and one of my sisters played high school/college soccer, so I would have really been looking forward to this.
