Bear in mind he's South African and was born into an interracial marriage during apartheid. His parents' relationship was illegal, and it's given him a very unique perspective on race in this day and age.

This might help explain it a little:

How is the statement incorrect? If he was funny and people watched the show, he's still have a job

He's quitting. He didn't get fired. Dude is crazy popular internationally and wants to get back to touring full time.

I like Noah more as a "personality" rather than a comedian, but even I admit that I stopped watching The Daily Show roughly a year into his tenure. Had less to do with him and more to do with me not being able to keep up with a nightly show anymore, but still. It just didn't have the same urgency as when Stewart was there. Curious who they'll get to replace Noah, but at the same time it feels like the show's relevance in general has diminished quite a bit, and I doubt I watch again whoever it is.

Seems like a no brainer to replace him with someone cut from the Bill Maher cloth: classical liberal/dem until the end … but will fight to the death for free speech / comedy..and detests wokeness / progressivism just as much as MAGA

……but obv that isn't going to happen

Would love it if they went the Bill Maher-ish route, but younger, as there definitely needs to be more voices on the left calling out uber wokeness/both sides. I'm afraid they're just going to go more woke/divisive, though.

I've never liked him as host of The Daily Show, but I read his book a couple of years ago and found it to be incredible. Because of his upbringing in South Africa, as someone who was viewed as Black by some, and White by others, he definitely has a unique perspective. One of the best books I've ever read.

After reading his book, I watched some of his stand up and it's pretty good. I still don't like him on The Daily Show, though. Also, his story of being in rap group with Hitler and performing at the local Jewish school is one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

I'm really going to miss the promos that always managed to mention Trump while watching reruns of The Office.

It's a heartbreaker.

His book, Born a Crime is a good read.

My wife and I listened to the audiobook during a road trip (which was narrated by Trevor) and his mom seemed like such a badass. Truly a remarkable story.

Daily show hasn't been on my rotation in a while but I've always been a fan of Trevor.

The bit about how Japanese were white and Chinese were colored was eye opening.

Same. I really Like Noah but don't watch the show regularly anymore. I think he's a really good interviewer, but I don't enjoy his scripted sets as much as some other late night shows. That may be more of a writer issue and/or disconnect between Noah's strengths and the medium.

Anyways, I'm excited to see what's next for him and what the TDS will do next.

Count me in the "I like him, but not on The Daily Show" camp.

Honestly, it's probably because Jon Stewart is one of my all-time favorites and I loved the show so much when he was on it that nothing could live up to it.

It's also because I grew outside of the target demo. When Stewart was the host, my 19-20 yr old brain ate that stuff up and I was already living on Comedy Central for South Park alone. Now I'm in my mid 30s, have a wife and kid and the hour or so of tv I get to consume on a given night isn't gonna be spent watching network cable regardless of the host lol

I also like Noah but it doesn't land for me on the Daily Show. It can't help the Daily Show that one of it's alumni has a much better show on HBO.

I wonder if this is a situation where he realized there aren't going to be any "step up" openings any time soon, or he decided he didn't want to spend the rest of his career as a talk show host?

I probably agreed with Stewart's takes about half the time. He pulled his punches in some areas and focused more on others because of his personal politics. HOWEVER, he could always make me laugh. His snarky remarks and facial expressions absolutely made the DS what it was.

He's a very talented comedian who was ahead of his time. Much like Norm on SNL in the 90's, who arguably pioneered that style of 'snarky news'.

Several of Stewart's disciples that came through the DS used that to get their own gigs, taking that same style with them. The problem is, they weren't Jon Stewart. It doesn't have the same feel.

Mean-spirited comedy just isn't funny. And I think there's too much of that right now. The most memorable are those who can mock others with a bit of truth...and a bit of empathy.

Dana Carvey and Darryl Hammond's political impressions weren't great because they portrayed someone as evil, they were great because they could make both sides laugh and have some empathy for the person.

I think they should have done a few things when Jon Stewart moved on. They should have either hired a replacement with a more similar mix of whimsical/silly humor with the ability to be serious (not an easy find)
Or they should have renamed the show if they were going to go with Trevor noah. It did him no favors to just attempt to plug and play.

I feel like I'm his ideal demographic being a dumb, educated, minority liberal and even I can't stand him. If that is some of his best material, I just don't understand how he ever got the job to begin with.

He is just aggressively unfunny. He has terrible timing, his voice/accent is terrible for comedy, and he just never really seems to provide any unique perspective that is typical with some of the best comedians.

Part of the issue here is that this market has long been saturated. The original Daily Show was pretty ground breaking. However, now every late night talk show is openly pro-left with extreme TDS along with the MSM. How do you differentiate yourself when everyone on this circuit is making the same jokes about the right?

Do we really need this many left leaning late night shows? I'm baffled they are all still on the air. Take politics out of it...is anyone under 40 actually watching these shows? Anyone under 45 for that matter? I haven't watched a "late show" in 20+ years and literally don't have a single friend who watches them.

Gonna have to agree with this. At this point, it feels just like every other late night show, at least in terms of its messaging, save for the correspondents in the field segments.

That said, I've been forced to watch Greg Gutfeld with my dad a few times and holy sh*t, politics aside, that show could not be less funny/more smarmy if it tried. As predictable, saturated, and same-minded as leftist late night media has become, it's still light years beyond the right in terms of actually being funny.

I just wish there was a comedic political show that could roast both sides equally, with legit good writing. Feels like it would be a huge hit, too.

I've only seen it a few times but it's also kicking everyone else's ass in the ratings and that's simply because it's the only show like these that takes the opposite side. He has a monopoly simply because he zigs whenever everyone else zags.

Gutfield was actually hilarious on Red Eye on Fox News back in the day. That show was wild, it also aired at 2AM central.

Impossible, the Left will not tolerate any serious criticism or scrutiny from one of "its own". They'll be bullied into recasting or replaced.
