Weren't there multiple Gallaghers?

I saw him in Vegas maybe three or four years ago. Loved him in the 80's, but he was not the same dude. I'm not one to get offended by much of anything at all, but he was so borderline cruel to an Asian lady in the audience that I half expected him to catch a beating after the show. He was not at all the happy go lucky guy I remembered from the TV specials. And, yes, it was him, not his brother.

Was that a bit he did in association with his comedy or was that the cornerstone of his act? Because I can't imagine a less interesting show than watching a guy smash watermelons. I'm picturing the first three are okay and then you're hoping he takes volunteers so he can pulverize your brain into paste.

In the early 1990s, Gallagher's younger brother Ron asked him for permission to perform shows using Gallagher's trademark Sledge-O-Matic routine. Gallagher granted his permission on the condition that Ron, who shared a strong likeness to Leo, and his manager clarified in promotional materials that it was Ron Gallagher, not Leo Gallagher, who was performing. Ron typically performed in venues smaller than those in which Leo Gallagher performed. After several years, Ron began promoting his act as Gallagher Too or Gallagher Two. The courts ultimately sided with him, and an injunction was granted prohibiting Ron from performing any act that impersonated his brother in small clubs and venues. This injunction also prohibited Ron from intentionally bearing likeness to Leo.

He wanted to change out of hit things with big hammers, but the audience wouldn't let him modify it.

I guess his act wasn't mallet-able
