Saw this movie today.

I went in knowing only that it would feature real warbirds in many sequences, starred Hangman of Top Gun Maverick, and was set in the Korean War. I knew nothing of Jessie Brown, the US Navy's first black aviator.

I'll put some thoughts in spoiler tags here. This movie was a gut-punch emotional movie, which I suppose is what happens when you don't know anything about the character the movie centers around. I really didn't see what happened to him coming, so when all that transpired, it hit me pretty hard. Emotional kind of like another famous Korean War movie, The Bridges at Toko-Ri

There was some seriously awesome warbird action in this movie. F4U-4 Corsairs, F8F Bearcats, AD-1 Skyraiders. I wasn't able to note when real warbird photography ended and CGI began, but clearly they didn't put a MiG-15 in the air shooting at real Corsairs.

Can't wait to see this. I'm going in spoiled because I knew the story beforehand after I read up on the characters. I'm super excited for the *airplanes which are used in aerial combat* action, the transition from the prop plane age into the jet age and Korean War isn't really depicted on screen much.

Went last night. Incredible performance from Jonathan Majors and of course always fun seeing Glenn Powell. I was also going in blind on the story other than knowing Hudner is a MOH recipient. Wow, all the emotions!

Really interested in seeing this. My BIL was a Marine Aviator who served in Korea and Viet Nam. He started in Corsairs and finished in Phantoms.

Corsairs have always been my favorite airframe. Just something visually appealing about it to me.

Saw it several weeks ago at SCAD Savannah Film Festival. Really good movie. Jonathon Majors and J D Dillard spoke after the showing. Dillard grew up a Navy brat and his dad was a Blue Angel pilot. I think that carried over to his desire to make a quality movie.

I know the nephew of Jesse Brown. He was an animal health sales rep in Mississippi. Upon visiting about aviation, Hezekiah told me about his Uncle Jesse. I bought the book and read about his sacrifices.

So glad to hear they made a movie about him.

Can't wait to see it.

Took the boys to see devotion. Not a bad movie, but definitely "based" on actual events. There was enough drama and perseverance in the actual events that a screen writer should not have added made up drama. Compared to the book the screen writer completely missed why the book was called devotion. It was about the devotion of Jessie to his family, the devotion of Tom and Jessie as friends, the devotion of pilots to one another and the devotion of the men in the air to those on the ground. The screen writer did not understand this and it showed in the final product. I highly recommend the book, just read it after watching the movie.

I'm a super slow, ADHD reader, so when I see how quick you read this, I'm impressed. Haven't seen the movie but want to.

Is this kid friendly? I grew up watching war movies with my dad and have a 7 and 11 year old. Just curious.

It was meant to be read (pronounced reed not red)

I don't recall any sex, maybe a few swimsuits. There is violence in some of the ground scenes, but nothing you wouldn't see on tv.

My boys are 13, 7 and 5. All enjoyed and didn't budge if there was an airplane of screen, which was often.

1950's swimsuits cover more than today's homecoming and prom dresses so we should be good to go. Granted, given my love for warbirds, they have already seen WWII and Korean War era nose art so not much left to the imagination...

We enjoyed the heck out of this movie and even though I knew how it ends I still had to wait a bit to walk out of the theater.

I hate that this bombed because it's a great story with good performances by Majors and Powell.

I didn't know the story until I checked after the trailers came out. Enjoyed the movie. If you want to see more movies like this be sure and see it. The military personnel are portrayed as good guys which Hollywood doesn't like to see.

Have not read the book but recently watched the movie on streaming and really enjoyed it. I am surprised that it did not perform any better at the box office.
