No, not Stimpy's friend.

Up and coming musician/busker in the UK. He is talented in several genres, as a lyricist/vocalist/guitarist/rapper, has a real troubadour type vibe, music as art. His new video seems to be blowing up and I imagine he will soon be much bigger, at least in the UK, not sure how well he translates over to the US market.

It's worth going through some of his channel's videos and songs. He's a bit too anti-capitalist idealist for my tastes, but that's pretty much to be expected with that kind of creativity and worth overlooking to experience his talent. Another storylike song worth watching the whole video is

Geez I personally can't imagine driving around and listening to that....might drive me crazy. Could probably be used to get crucial intel from detained terrorists though.

That's why I have doubts it will translate well over to the US.

Why anyone would think all music performances need to be something you would put on your mp3 player and listen to working out or driving is beyond me, but that is most of the US.

He has many songs that you could listen to that are something you would add to a playlist on your phone, but I would never listen to these particular songs without watching him perform them. That's the point, its an entire performance, recorded with the acoustics of the rooms and places he's in. It's the ART of music performance. Not just sound.

I hate to be hyperbolic, but that first video is one of the worst examples of "music" I've ever heard.

I get the "performance" part of music like this. And he is talented.

But this is stuff you listen to in your early 20's in a small hipster bar alongside your friends and 15 other people who are all high as **** just like you and determined to be the most enlightened, introspective, cerebral ******bags ever. That's the only time music like this truly gets listened to. It never catches on beyond a small niche group of people.

Gave this a real chance, based on the responses above.

There is some real musical talent at the core of this, and large parts were really enjoyable.
A bit of it was too stage theatery/one man show-ish for my tastes, but I think that's what he is going for. He's not making a radio hit, but an 'experience.

I found it much better if I had the tab minimized and only listened to it, but I would guess he thinks that removes an aspect of the experience he is trying to take people through.

Its not an exact one for one, but I think this person is actually quite a bit like The Mars Volta was. They both clearly have a lot of talent, and they could make amazingly enjoyable music but they would rather 'explore' the artistic aspect.
Which doesnt make it suck, but it does make it something I would not listen to again, and then just sort of wonder what they could make if they didn't have that impulse in their brain.

I watched one of his interviews, he mentioned he probably would never do the types of songs like the 2 posted here had he not had a severe issue with lyme disease (or some auto immune issue) for years where he had to go through all kinds of teatments and therapy both physical and mental and basically wanted to die.

Sure it's not something I would play on repeat but the experience alone from seeing them performed was pretty hard hitting.

Oh, like I said he's very talented. That first song is actually very deep and 99% of the musicians you hear on the radio wouldn't even come close to being able to write or perform it.

Would I buy an album? No. but if someone said, hey let's go see this one-man guitar thing, I'd be like, oh, Ed sheeran looper type guy, sure... and then he did that first thing, I'd prolly talk about it for a few days. Incredible talent and clever writing for sure.

Dude is putting out new material every week or so. Apparently he's in Canada getting medical treatment that will have him down for 6+ months so he's built up material over the past year to release continually.

Everything he has put out so far is pretty impressive.

I don't think anyone here is questioning the guy's talent for doing exactly what he's doing in the videos. Indeed he does have an insane amount of musical talent for doing that. I know for a fact I could never even dream of doing that stuff.

Guess you didn't know any HSPVA or theater kids growing up. There are plenty of people who have some musical talent, who I would never willingly listen to or watch more than once. This is something the too-hip-for-you kids at Super Happy Fun Land in the 90s would have pretended to like.
Texaggie7nine
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sure they would have loved to be like this but they couldn't because talent at this level is absolutely rare. You never met anyone this talented at school.

I would be pissed if this guy wasted his vision and talent on pop music or pushing music to sell out concerts.
