...at 71. After all he's been through, I'm really surprised he lived as long as he did. But 71 is still young. The band is all back together in the hereafter!

My twin boys, when they were 11... 12... met the second only surviving original member of LS. Watched the performance, front row, of .38 Special and hung with the band for an hour or so after the show.

Before the show I informed them that they were going to meet Southern Rock Royalty after the show. That would be the other Van Zant.

So remaining living members/ex-members of note:

Johnny Van Zant - singer since late 80's, brother of Ronnie
Rickey Medlocke - current member and also played on some of the earliest LS material
Artimus Pyle - drummer from 74 - 91 (and survived the 77 plane crash)

It will be interesting to see if the band continues on or hangs it up. My understanding is that Ronnie Van Zandt's widow allowed the band to continue as long as one original member remained. Rickey Medlocke was not on any albums but was technically a very early original member leaving to form Blackfoot before Skynyrd made it big.
