From the less bubbly side, the Joshua Tree and Born in the USA are there.

Take On Me is 100% the video that comes to mind when I think quintessential 80's, and this is coming from someone who really doesn't listen to much 80's music at all.

Video? Thriller. Not even close. "Take On Me" is an iconic video but we weren't racing home from school to watch it when it was pre scheduled to air like Thriller.
Song? If an alien ship landed and I had to choose one song to represent 80s pop, it's "Melt With You" by Modern English.

Always liked that Alphavile song...

"The Whole of the Moon" by the Waterboys doesn't have broad name recognition, but is one that feels pretty quintessentially 80s to me.

Video: A couple have already been mentioned, and I'll add "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel and "Land of Confusion" by Genesis.

The best song ABOUT the '80s might be "Welcome to the Boomtown" by David and David.
