And to your point, 'Hard Luck Woman' was originally written for Rod Stewart, but Gene saw so many potential dollar signs that KISS kept it.

Karen Carpenter, singing drummer emeritus.

The best one now is Deen Castronovo. He can pull off Steve Perry's vocal parts while playing Steve Smith's drum parts. That's fairly amazing.

Are we talking people that sang while they played drums? Or full time drummers that eventually moved into front man roles? Or singers that can play drums even if they never played live?

Stevie Wonder played drums in the studio a lot. Does that qualify him for this discussion? Steven Tyler started as a drummer in his youth. What about him?
