I couldn't find a Foundation specific thread while using the search feature.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I'm curious what people thought about the first season? I'm on Episode 5 and I'm enjoying it. It has sort of a Dune / GOT feel. I read disappointment in the series at first so my bar was very low but this has been entertaining thus far.

I started watching a while back. Despite impressive visuals, it just didn't keep my interest for whatever reason. It dis spur me to get the Foundation books, which I have never read.

I watched the first couple of episodes but then lost interest. You can tell they spent a bunch of money on it. I don't mind that it doesn't stick to the books, but even trying to change an unfilmable book into a TV show seems hard.

Like most classic high brow science fiction, the books are a lot more about ideas than they are compelling plot lines.

Interesting to hear people lost interest.

I watched Silo and found episodes 4-5+ all incredibly slow and boring. I kept watching but in the realm of what has been revealed....they sure stretched out events after the mayor/sheriff change.

I haven't hit that point yet.

I started watching a week or so ago and I'm up to about S1 Episode 5 also.

I'm sticking with it because I like sci-fi stuff and I'm still trying to figure out where they're going with it.

So far with all the jumping forward and backward across large time periods, it's almost like a new show every episode.

I'm in just to see where it goes but so far, they've spent a lot of time developing characters who they've abandoned.

Yeah, it's a tough slog. Great graphics, but story's just tough. I watched all of Season 1, and then I can't get through S2E1 because I forgot what's going on. And apparently it doesn't really follow the books either.

I liked S1 and was pretty excited for S2. The second season is starting really slow so far. It took me 2 or 3 tries to finish the first episode of S2. I kept falling asleep or getting bored....

I probably should have watched the last couple episodes of S1 to get ready for the new season. I couldn't really remember how S1 ended.

I just watched the first episode of season 2. I was pretty impressed with season 1. Definitely have to pay attention to what is happening to figure it all out.

Season 2 episode 1 was a big departure from the first season.

Obviously Empire's DNA has been perverted quite a bit over the last 4-5 generations. As well as the degradation of the Empire civilization as well.

I thought the first season was really good looking and there were parts I found interesting enough to keep watching, especially the Dawn/Day/Dusk storylines.

I watched the first two episodes of season 2 and am quickly losing interest to the point that I found myself only partly paying attention.

That led to an even bigger disappointment as I spent some of my distracted time googling when the next season of a far superior sci-fi series, the Expanse, was going to be released, only to find out that there will be no next season.

First 2 of S2 have been pretty tough. I haven't done it yet but highly recommend finding a good recap of season 1. They treat it as if you went straight from finishing 1 and into 2. Without a recap I still really have no idea what the hell is going on.

I am glad to see there is a good sampling of other viewers who find this show hard to stay interested in. Not sure what it is about this show but I suspect the scope is too huge to translate to TV.

The downfall of a galactic empire and the mitigation of a dark age is more fun as a though experiment than trying to consume all the details.

The idea of Foundation is better suited for wikipedia than many novels or a TV show.

the books were, pardon the pun, the foundation of my science fiction reading catalog as a young teen and I have read them many, many times over the decades since. I was so disappointed in the series but I recognize that it's just something that can't be translated to TV. I never finished season 1 and won't even attempt season 2. I might however, read the books again. It seems like a good time to visit an old friend.

So as an avid reader of every Robot, Galactic Empire and Foundation novel, it sounds like I wouldn't like this show. That and it just isn't good from all the comments.

This. The visuals are incredible. The story is bad. It's like they read a few pages of Cliff's notes on the story and said "ok, lets make a movie." If you liked the books, the show will be incredibly disappointing.

I'm 9 episodes in having watched this after Silo.

I liked Silo but when I step back, the pacing of Foundation is so much better.

3 episodes into Silo they basically dragged the story out until the last 30 minutes.

There are a few details in the story that aren't perfect but not having read the books eliminates those disconnects that annoy people. Most of the negative reviews fall into that bucket from what I can tell.

I recommend it.

You needed to search for "Asimov" to pull it up for some reason. I guess foundation was too common a word (apparently it was used quite a bit in the Sound of Freedom thread).

Regardless here is the 4 page thread from 2021 on the first season:
https://texags.com/forums/13/topics/3229825/replies/60248114

I enjoyed it, and have watched the first 2 episodes of season 2. The Dawn/Day/Dusk story line is again more compelling, but I feel like a lot of that is Lee Pace chewing scenery like there's no tomorrow, which admittedly is a theme.

I really liked Season 1 - but I haven't read the books. I have read a lot of science fiction though and s1 wasn't hard for me to follow.

I've only seen the first episode of s2 so will reserve comment on s2 until I've seen it.

I'm enjoying this show…find it compelling sci-fi. S2 Ep3 is pretty good and the pace of the season may pick up from here.

Finished season 2 a couple of days ago. I enjoyed it even more than season 1.

There are a few things that seem hard to explain, specifically with Hari's terminus ship, but whatever. It's some crazy year in the future so I'll allow it.

I stuck with S2 and am glad I did. Some parts were hard to follow because of all the jumping around between worlds and time, but most of it tied together pretty nicely in the end. Maybe I could have followed it better if I had read the books?

I really liked how they revealed / explained Demerzel's role. However, nearly the entire storyline for Empire this season seemed irrelevant based on how it ended. All 3 of them went off "Empire's" script and tried to do things differently, but in the end it didn't matter since they all got written off or killed and new one's were spawned. I guess that was the desired effect, though.....Now we know that Empire can try to change things to their will, but Demerzel will always be there to course correct.

I really enjoy the show. Yes it's long and parts are slow but it's more like watching a novel unfold vs. watching the Avengers. I find the story compelling and the the acting superior. I do find the story deep and somewhat confusing at times but I appreciate that. Too many movies are dumbed down these days and they spoon feed you the story. I love good sci-fi though so yeah…

Really like the show. The production quality of AppleTV content is superior to all others.

FYI, the actor (Lee Pace) who portrays Brother Day (Empire) is a Houstonian.

I finished season 2 recently. It is a show that I have to watch a Youtube explainer to really keep up with what is going on but I like it. Apple TV seems to have the best production quality of all the streaming services at the moment.

Just binged season 2 and liked it a lot more than season 1. Season 1 didn't have me dying to watch season 2 (obviously since I just now did), but I will definitely watch season 3 once it premieres (article below confirms it was renewed btw).

I agree that a longer recap of season 1 would have been helpful to start since they assumed you remembered a lot from it. Once it got going though, this season was amazing.

I like that they aren't afraid to kill characters, although there were quite a few who came back in various ways. Kind of lowers the stakes a bit, but at least some stay dead.

I read the books years ago but don't remember the details well. I know the show has taken a diverging path, but I'm still trying to restrain myself from rereading so that I won't ruin some of the main points at least.

We're now 150 years hence from when Season 2 ended. Watching tonight, so just an FYI with the post.

Watched the season 3 premiere this evening. It had been so long since season 2 ended, I was worried I would have forgotten too much. I still have a few memory holes to fill, but the episode was fairly easy to follow and sets up the rest of the season well.

I just started this last weekend and already into the 3rd episode of S2. Really digging it! Love everything to do with the emperor clones. The Dawn that got done dirty by the gardener chick has been my favorite storyline. Lee Pace is so damn good in this. He's done an incredible job of making each iteration of Day the same but different.
