"I have been on strike as a writer since A Dance with Dragons."
I started reading ASOIAF when my daughter was born in 2013 and I was certain that by the time I finished the books, he would be done with WoW and ADoS. Oh well.Quote:

George lets it be known that there are only 400-500 pages left for him to write and that he has finished almost 1200 pages. So maybe no release in 2023, but maybe 2024, or hopefully 2025?
Maaaaaan, talking about old wounds. I started reading ASOIAF in 2001, and he was doing this even back then. On his website in 2001-02 he kept promising a dance of dragons was close to being done over and over to his fans (who were questioning since the original books only had 2 years between them), and then he would miss every date he gave, all the while making a ton money off of fan events, ranting about politics, and then ranting about his fans being mad about him missing release dates he put out. This is why he gets so much hate from a lot of people (myself included), the man kept dangling release dates in front of fans and then yanking them back well before he started this crap with a dance of dragons (which never was supposed to exist) or the next one.Malachi Constant said:

IMO, he's too in love with his characters to ever wrap up the story. The books have been expanding in scope and just keep introducing more characters with each new entry. I've been frustrated with the last two as they seemed to be 1000+ pages that didn't seem to progress the story very much as he's jumping around between seemingly 15 different characters and storylines at this point…and he just keeps adding more or bringing some back from the dead.
He's not willing to "edit" characters and rejoin the storylines to build momentum toward a finish line.
I think that was true 20+ years ago, and he'll just write whenever the money train stops flowing as muchjenn96 said:BDG02 said:

I think that was true 6-8 years ago. Now I think he's just done and I don't think he's writing it at all now.
