I saw that the 4th season is out this month and we like Sci-fi / Fantasy stuff.

We implemented a 2 episode minimum to eliminate shows, but that was a year or so after we dumped For All Mankind.

This show started out so slow that the rest of the family gave up watching it. They were bored.
Does the pace/story pick up after the first episode?

2 episodes? 15 minutes of the first is all shows get from me

Each season focuses on a different set of years in the alternative history. Season 1 is all about getting to the moon and the "race for the base." Season 2 has the same characters, but several years later. Season 3 jumps ahead another decade or so. An episode might only cover a few days, then the next episode might jump ahead 6 months. Is that what you mean by pace?

I recently started watching this show so I know where you're coming from. I agree it started out slow but I ended up enjoying season 1 and I'm about halfway through season 2 right now. I will say the show does focus more on the personal and family drama aspects of the astronauts involved. Not going to get into the socio-political aspects of some of the things they cover in the first season as they didn't bother me, but I could see it being an issue for some. Season 2 hasn't been as strong for me but I haven't given up on it.

I will say that I appreciate that they're looking at the space program from a different angle. The entire show is predicated on how the entire space program would have been impacted had the Soviets been first to the moon. To me that makes a lot of the things in the show that are financially obscene more plausible because I could totally see the government, especially in eras of conservative leadership, throw a ton of money into the space program.

I would say give it some more time but it's not a show that will work for everyone IMO.

One of the fun aspects of the show is to watch how that simple change (the Soviets got there first) causes small ripples in season 1 that get amplified in season 2, and huge acceleration of tech in season 3. There are some funny alternative history Easter eggs along the way that don't impact the plot, too. (Like Michael Jordan being drafted by a different NBA team.) Character development is a key factor in the show; it's more of a soap opera than a space opera. I would definitely say that bailing out after only 2 episodes is a shame.

I started watching the first season a few days ago, and I can say that I like it. I heard a lot of negative reviews, but it's pretty interesting to me

FWIW, I convinced my wife, son, and his wife to rewatch the whole series with me. All of them got hooked pretty quickly. And notably, the wives are definitely not fans of sci-fi.

I love it.

We just started this, like 4 episodes in.
Enjoying it more than I expected

Through season 2 and it's probably a solid B at this point but I do enjoy "the universe" quite a bit.

I loved season 1. Season 2 lost me as it turned into a soap opera.
