This masterpiece comes up here from time to time. It's really a wonderful movie. So many themes. Every single performance is top notch.

A few tidbits:

1. I understand the author got the story from some people in Atlanta. It was passed amongst the lawyers and businessmen in the clubs. It may be a true story at some point.

2. I've read the book as well and the movie is about a good translation as No Country for Old Men. But the author was a drunk and he was banned from the set because he punched the director.

3. My pops was from Georgia and he said the people in that area hated the movie because the production crew was rude and left a huge mess.

4. This movie ruined Beatty's career.

Staff! I posted in the wrong forum. Please move to entertainment

I guess staff is going to allow it. : )

There are usually at least a thousand ways you can detour (derail?) any thread into politics.

The OP mentioned 'movie' and 'Georgia' for example. I am sure that a nice political detour can branch off from those two words alone.

The real story is VERY political. Based on the construction of Lake Lanier back in the 1950's. Its now a huge and critical water source for metro Atlanta and 7.2 million people. It is said many poor folk were displaced to build a water play ground for the rich,

Not only that, as a drought in 2007 proved, water is a huge political issue. Georgia threaten its neighbors over water rights when Laneir dropped to record lows. By 2009 it was above flood stage, and all was peaceful and the big boats were again at sail.

The banjo playing kid was a local kid discovered by the casting scout. The director was looking for an albino kid that looked inbred. He wasn't an albino but fit the bill of looking like an inbred hillbilly. He couldn't actually play a banjo and a real banjo player crouched behind him with his hands under his shirt playing the instrument.

Yup, sounds like a young Joe Biden to me!

4. This movie ruined Beatty's career.
Did it? Deliverance came out in 1972 I think. Ned Beatty was Otis in Superman the Movie and Superman II in 1978/1981, and was the homeowner who spotted and attempted to sink the Jap submarine in Spielberg's criminally underrated 1941 (1979). That's 3 big budget, big audience movies that he appeared in years after Deliverance. While they weren't leading roles, they were roles in high profile movies of the time.

Yes it did. He was an up and coming actor. He was a serious actor. All he could get were doofus roles from then in out. Superman II is exhibit 1.

As an aside, when playing in a Texas Hold 'em tournament. If you're all in, ahead, and then get ****ed on the river and are out of the game, you just got Deliveranced.
