Looking at famous duos in music. Several of them had member who was less recognized, and then one who was more prominent and in some cases went off to have huge solo success.

Which was the most worthless in your opinion? Which contributed the most to the duo?

Rank them in order if you like from most value to least value.
If you have to look up who it is, then they should probably be lower on the list!

Art Garfunkel
Andrew Ridgeley
Ronnie Dunn
John Oats
Sonny Bono
Meg White
Ike Turner
Dave Stewart
Curt Smith
Jim Messina
Antwan Patton
Chris Lowe

Any others I missed?

Ike was certainly a terrible human being, but he was a whole lot more talented/influential than most of that list.

Meg White would be Yoko if John had brought her in the band earlier. Should be near bottom

Ike knew how to organize a band and put on a show.

I watched the Wham doc recently, and I remember something like with them as well, that it wasn't apparent in the beginning that george would be a runaway star.

You need to add Walter Becker and put him at or near the top of the list for most contributions.

Jimmy Messina was already a successful musician, songwriter and producer when he met Kenny Loggins. He had been a key member of both Buffalo Springfield and Poco before deciding he was tired of touring and wanted to focus on producing.

He never intended to become a duo, but the first album's success with him "sitting in" to help Loggins made it a wise decision.

He wrote/cowrote many of Loggins & Messina's hits, including "Your Momma Don't Dance" and "Thinking of You," two of their highest charting songs.

It's definitely true that Loggins had the bigger career post L&M but Messina was the leader of that duo, even if he lacked some of Loggins' stage presence and vocal chops.

Jim Messina is a genius and without him? No Poco.

Curt Smith is a boss. Isn't he the primary singer in Tears for Fears?
His appearances in Psych are legendary in my house.

He plays bass and sings lead on several songs including 'Mad World', 'Pale Shelter", and 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World'. Roland is the primary songwriter and sings lead on more songs. There were two albums released in the 90's without Curt. He rejoined and is on their last 2 albums. The one released last year has him on lead or co-lead vocals on more than half the songs.

Curt Smith, Chris Lowe, and Dave Stewart do not belong at that list whatsoever.
