Gene Hackman - is who I always think of, especially for this time period
Harrison Ford - did quite well during this time also

Somewhat of a stretch, but in the 80s you could make a decent argument about Michael Keaton fitting this description. Some cult classics (Batman, Beetlejuice), and several others that were quirky but funny (Johnny Dangerously, Multiplicity, Mr Mom), and others that maybe aren't as memorable but certainly didn't suck.
