Caught up with the released episodes so far. It's a little much at times but glad the last two are dropping tonight. It is enjoyable, more thoughts below.
The show is self-indulgent. I don't see how a promiscuous lesbian advances the plot. Maybe the tryst with the Chinese girl will make more sense in the final two episodes. And the heiress being married a woman doesn't do anything for the story either. Yes, every cable show has injected this stuff over the last 20 years but it still does nothing for compelling stories. At least it is not two dudes.
Additionally Imogene banging the ship owner and head of security is just romantic novel drivel. It became pretty obvious the creator is a woman based on all the illicit love affairs that bring nothing to the show.
The time jumps back and forth are good for layering the stories but it is ridiculous at times to try and throw some beard dye on Inigo Montoya to make him look younger. Same goes for the governor. Seeing her talking to Imogene's mom in an afro in the throwback scene was completely dumb: she looked like she was from a 70s blaxploitation movie rather then the mid-2000s. I don't recall fros being an in-style thing in 2005.
The characters and acting are good but the show is not really compelling enough to recall the names of any characters besides Rufus and Imogene. I had no idea "Llewellyn" was the lawyer's name until he died. The characters are actually much more caricatures.
Making this environmentally-rooted in evil corporate greed is cringe as well. Entertaining as a who-dun-it, but needs less social bingo checkboxes.
