Didn't see a thread on this already in a search, so I'll start one.

This premiered at Cannes last year and was up for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, but it just got wide release.

It's absolutely fantastic. The way the story is told is unique for the modern day and reminiscent of old cartoons. The animation, though, is full of life and wonder such as shots of detailed stars on a clear night. It's also completely nostalgic for a previous era in the most evocative way possible.

It's appropriate for kids, and they'll enjoy it, but adults will probably enjoy it more because of the themes. The film really speaks to experiences that we can appreciate as we get older. It reminded me of a kid-friendly, platonic version of Past Lives.

I can't recommend it enough. By the end, the entire theater was obviously affected by and loved it. It's a must-watch.
