Yeah it's fascinating to me that this story is getting as much play as it is. Not in any way condoning what he did, but a musician or Hollywood type cheating on their S/O is one of the least surprising things ever. And even if that wasn't true, I, and I think most people, don't care about the personal lives of celebrities, play good music I'll listen, play crap and I won't. What you do in your personal life is your business.

I figured that would be the response. But the number of people who read gossip mags or watch tabloid TV is still a relatively small percentage of the population. Even at its peak, the National Enquirer's circulation was only about 6 million against a country with 300 million for example.
I do suppose having 10 million or so people who care is more than enough to make it worth trying to drum up hits on though I guess.

Lots of people live vicariously through celebs. Just look at how many 18-50 year olds are hanging on to Taylor Swift's endorsement

I simply don't understand why this is big tabloid style fodder. The dude is a major Celebrity rockstar with chicks at every tour stop ready to drop their panties for him. Rockstars cheating and knocking a groupie up shouldn't be big news and certainly his wife and kids shouldn't be brought into the news stories like I have seen from Daily Mail and other sites.

It's a big story because he got out in front of it and is controlling the narrative rather than it being months of speculation, a tell-all from whomever the mother is, and the paparazzi invading his family's space, looking for evidence that he's been dumped, divorced, or whatever.

This is his version of the President in "Clear and Present Danger" telling the media that he and the dude that got murdered by the drug lords on the yacht were "lifelong friends" - the media has very few places to go with the story now.

Clearly I don't know the guy but this is my take too. Seems like a decent enough dad, and, by rock star standards, an awesome dad.

Infidelity is a selfish choice that is typically extremely destructive to the entire family. Doesn't mean he is always or only a ****ty parent but that behavior is not being a good parent in my belief.

That's a fair take but I can't imagine being gone from home for months on end is good either and that seems to pass scrutiny.

He made a mistake and got caught. He can still be a good person and a good dad in spite of that.

I think it's only a story because A) he's the one breaking the story, and B) he's kind of like the internet's favorite rock dad. Kind of like Jack Black or Hugh Jackman - someone with a lot of goodwill with a lot of people. His fans probably hope, somewhere in the back of their minds, that he's not like the other typical rockers.

Kinda like how I hope all my favorite bands aren't abusing drugs, and then Taylor Hawkins died with 10 different drugs in his system.
