Such an incredibly fun movie.

Sure, it requires some suspension of disbelief here and there, but not too much, and it's all in service of some really clever writing, making for one of the best times I've had in theaters in a while.

I've seen complaints that the trailer below gives away too much, but those people obviously haven't seen the movie yet, because 90% of the trailer is from only the first act. There are so many great little twists and turns after that point, you won't be spoiled in the least.

I'd say overall it's kind of like... Ex Machina meets Get Out meets a fun slasher flick.

It's a pretty straightforward premise, takes place in basically one sprawling location (with minor exceptions), and features a great cast. Speaking of, between this and Heretic late last year, Sophie Thatcher is absolutely killing it, to the point where it feels like she's quickly becoming the new scream queen. Not to mention, an Aggie is featured - Marc Menchaca - in a small role too.

Anyway, Companion is out in wide release this weekend, is currently at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and I can't imagine not enjoying it if you're even remotely into this sort of thing...

Very entertaining. I think the trailers gave too much away but there were still some unexpected twists and turns.

Multiple gasps in the theater when they revealed Patrick to be a robot.

Between this and Heretic, Thatcher is having a nice little breakout.

Super fun movie. I thought the teaser was absolutely incredible and immediately grabbed you making you wonder wtf was going on in this insane looking movie. I saw a new trailer a few days ago that gave the plot away and I was pretty bummed they went that route. Would have definitely enjoyed it even more not knowing what to expect.

That said, really enjoyable and will definitely be a rewatchable. I've said it before Sophie Thatcher is going to blow up.

I definitely agree that I would have much rather gone into the movie not knowing she's a robot. But as good as the teaser trailer was (which I've embedded below for those who haven't seen it), while it sells people like you and me on the movie, and would have gotten us to buy a ticket, unfortunately I think it's just a bit too vague to get Average Joe audience member in the theater. Ultimately, I think Warner Bros was stuck between a rock and a hard place, but at least they kept the other trailer contained to mostly the first act. Seems like the most pragmatic compromise.

Either way, I'm glad you and Spilner both still liked it. It's such a great crowd pleaser and hopefully word-of-mouth gives it the legs it deserves...

Definitely agree and figured that's what they decided on as well. Trying to remember the marketing for Barbarian but seems like it was really vague. I definitely had no clue what it was about going into it, but that's what made it one of the best theater experiences I've had - well ever... I know that movie had good word of mouth and buzz but I'm not sure how it ended up doing financially. I assume it had something to do with their decision-making on this movie's marketing. Don't get me wrong, still absolutely loved Companion - I was just hoping for the same experience I got with Barbarian.

Speaking of Barbarian, who would've guessed the guy from The Whitest Kids You Know would go on to this kind of career.

I have to admit, I only saw Barbarian for the first time earlier this week, in preparation for this. For whatever reason, despite the great reviews (yours included), I just never got around to it.

That said, I was aware of *a* twist going in, and I knew it had something to do with Justin Long, but that was it. I don't remember Justin Long being in the marketing at all, though, I just happened to see his name mentioned in conjunction with it a couple times on social media over the years.

Regardless, it was pretty fun/effective, especially because I remember Bill Skarsgard being heavily hinted at in the trailer as the main villain, which was obviously/definitively ruled out relatively early on in the movie. To me, that was the bigger surprise than Long, but I guess they're connected/one leads to the other.

There's a lot of great buzz for his next movie, Weapons, which is currently scheduled for early 2026, but apparently test screenings are so good that they might move it up to 2025. Really good cast too… Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Brian Tyree Henry, Benedict Wong, among a bunch of others.

I think the "twist" is that it is such a massive tonal switch going from this dark home to a completely different seemingly unrelated character that feels like they are from a different movie. Several people were looking up at the projection booth thinking our movie got swapped out for another one

I loved this movie. Yes her nature was kinda spoiled in the trailer but I always just assumed she went rogue. I never expected her to have been a part of a plot by the group to steal this guys money.

Definitely a strong movie to start the year with.

Really enjoyed this movie. I saw the full trailer so knew about her but my wife had no idea going in. She really enjoyed it as well and it was fun watching her realize what was going on.

Really enjoyed heretic as well. Thatcher is on fire
