They released a new album today, The Price of Admission, and it is a really solid effort (just finished listening to it for the third time through). Only one or two songs that don't do much for me, a hand full of really good tunes and another handful that I love. "Leaving Town" is the standout track for me, if I had to choose.

Turnpike is my favorite country band. I started it, not too impressed yet but I only listened to 4 songs. I didn't like their last album and so far this one is on par with that one.

The album is definitely back loaded, in my opinion. Hopefully you enjoy the second half and it grows on you. I didn't think "A Cat in the Rain" was their best work either, but still enjoyed a number of songs on it.

7 & 7 grabbed me when I first heard it.
Diamonds and Gasoline top to bottom was full of hits!
Goodby Normal Street wasn't as good but had 5 great songs.
The Turnpike Troubadours album had 6 great ones with some of the best intros.
A long way from your Heart didn't do much for me at first but tornado warning & the housefire are 2 of my favorite songs!
A cat in the rain had mean old sun which I've grown to appreciate but it's still just ok.

I just don't think they're gaining anymore fans with their new music and I don't see any of these songs lasting. I watched them a few times since they've been back but their setlist would be better if they're played older songs and left out some of the newer ones. Mean old sun and chipping mill can easily be replaced with Easton and Main, 1968, Bossier City, Morgan Street, Wrecked, Leaving and Lonely…. They have so many songs to make a better show.

Nothing on the last 2 albums hit like long summer day, 7 & 7, housefire, every girl…so many homeruns with their older stuff.

Downloaded it but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Agree that Diamonds & Gasoline is the best album, solid all the way through.

I remember when they released A Long Way to your Heart, listened to it a few times and didn't think there was a single memorable song on it. Came back to it a couple years later and came to really like Pay No Rent, Housefire, Something to HoldOn To, Tornado Warning.

Mine is Cat Out in the Rain. I hung around Evan during the time the song is written about and all of those places he talks about "backed up to the Trinity" is my backyard

Just ok in my opinion. Nothing close song wise to their best songs (or just my favorites) like 7&7 or Diamonds & Gasoline.

Man...I love this album. It's one of those you can just throw on and let play through

After listening a to it all the way through, it's good, not great. No real stand outs, and it has too many slow songs. "Be Here" is probably the song I like best, sound like "Classic" turnpike.

Heaven Passing Through and Devil Plies his Trade are my 2 favorites at the moment …

Turnpike is just the best.
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Be Here is a great song about Felker's progression through rehab.

Leaving Town, Heaven Passing Through, Ruby Ann also all great in my mind.

First spin was a solid meh. Seems to take guys a couple albums out of rehab to really find it again.

Agreed. They're getting older and the lyrics are getting more reflective and multi-generational. And I'm at the point in my life where that just hits (probably because we're the same age). On the Red River is a masterpiece as was The Rut on Cat in the Rain.

Give it another try, I'm on my second run through and liking it a lot better. Still wish there were more fast songs.

This is the same for me too. My Alexa played a couple & im starting to recognize them. Good songs, just not a lot of magic. I still listen to them daily.

Dumb question from a guy that doesn't listen to new music. How do I download the new album?

Will definitely check it out.

Cat in the Rain was just okay for me (although Brought Me has become one of my favorite TT songs). Really enjoy the rest of their albums top to bottom. Took a while for Long Way to grow on me but it did. Pay No Rent is my wife's favorite Turnpike Song.

F1 just released their lineup for October. I think it'll be a great turnout for Garth but much smaller for Turnpike.
Kygo 17th
Garth 18th
Turnpike 19th

Curious question. I don't go to F1 for a number of reasons but is it international crowds or more local. I can't see that lineup appealing to what I think is international fan.

I think it's safe to say they just aren't going back to the Turnpike of 10-15 years ago. He's writing about totally different stuff and with that it seems a slightly different sound. I've listened a dozen times or so by now and am really enjoying it.

I appreciate the latest two albums just as much as those prior to 2024. They've aged just as you and I have and it shows on their albums. Mean Old Sun and The Rut are some of their best work in my opinion. Saw them twice last year so I've got some good memories to go along with those songs. On The Red River and What was Advertised are my favorites off of the new album at the moment. Keep spinning it and get some life stories to go along with the new album.

Came back to say that I LOVE this album now. Was pretty underwhelmed at first but inadvertently listed to it a bunch the last several weeks and it's rock solid like most of their stuff. No song that stands out as a memorable TT classic but every single song is very good. Definitely go back and listen a few more times if you're a fan but weren't crazy about this one at first.
