He was a fantastic artist and a great guy. Misunderstood and his career was derailed by some substance issues. He should be in the HOF.

Damn impressive and I've never heard of him. I would assume I would recognize some of this songs.

Johnny Rodriguez was great. Some of the best "sitting in your backyard having a beer on a hot summer day" 70s country there ever was.

"Ridin my thumb to Mexico" is a great tune and one of my wife's favorites.

I did a deep dive into his music a few years ago and he covered "Corpus Christ Bay" on an album in the 90s.

Also a line in David Allen Coe's "Longhaired Redneck" about "long before Rodriguez stole that goat."

I view Johnny as being bigger and better than Keith Whitley but Whitley garnered more accolades because he died. Both had pure voices but Johnny had a sense that he had lived most of his songs.

I went to a small bar many years ago to see Gary Stewart. About halfway through the night Gary Stewart says I see a good friend in the crowd. Johnny Rod strolled up to the stage and sang a few songs. Great night. Doesn't get much better.
