Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro are reprising their roles as Greg ****er and Jack Byrnes, respectively, in the fourth movie. The first film, released in 2000, saw Greg meeting his girlfriend's parents for the first time ahead of a planned marriage proposal and making one terrible impression after another. Adding to the comedic anxiety of the situation was the fact that Jack, the future father-in-law, was a retired CIA operative.

Details are still largely under wraps on the plot of the fourth movie, but producer Jane Rosenthal told Variety in a recent cover story, "Stiller is now the same age that [De Niro] was when we did the first one, and his kids have grown up, and they have to come home and meet the parents."

It is horrifyingly true. De Niro was 57 in 2000 and Stiller is 59 now.

I mean as far as sequel ideas go, this one seems like a no-brainer.

DeNiro could be a MAGA grandpa, the adult granddaughter an avid Harris supporter, and Stiller just plays the peacekeeper role with all the family home for the holidays. Crazy hijinks ensue! Eventually grandpa DeNiro sees the light and accepts his granddaughter for who she is, even if she supports the implementation of communism while grandpa spent decades fighting it. Family over politics for the feel good win of the holiday season and perfect for a Thanksgiving weekend release.

What a way to close out this epic, beloved, franchise, and truly the movie America needs.

The original is one of my all time comedy favorites. Such a great movie. The dinner table scene is just classic. So many lines I reference in my day to day life...

- circle of trust
- so was JC, you're in good company
- you can milk anything with nipples
- he doesn't even have thumbs fo cker
- i will bring you down baby, i will bring you down to china town
- you gotta spike those fo cker
- whittled it out of beach wood
- operation koh samui
- jack can't talk thai...oh yes dina, jack can talk thai. jack talk thai very well

I know I'm missing a bunch, but that movie was hilarious.

Not optimistic about another movie, but I'm sure I'll eventually see it.

The Rewatchables episode on the first one is really great. They really hammer on how unlikable and what a B Teri Polo's character is . I am happy to say I didn't see the third one.

Depending on how they write her character this could be really good or really really bad.

If they write her as a little whiny B and let DeNiro rip her a new one repeatedly...can't wait to see.

I didn't know there was a second one.

I was literally thinking last night about Ben Stiller and how we haven't seen him in anything in a long time (or I haven't anyway) and assumed he had gone full producer/ director mode.

This thread made me think.

They should turn the son gay and have him marrying Owen Wilson's character to spice up the narrative a bit.

Then the half the board will complain there is to much 'gay' in Hollywood compared to real life. The other half will tell us 1/3rd of their friends are gay and it's supper realistic. TCTTS will post 5 paragraphs containing 400 words on how it's not overrepresented at all and go to F16 to complain. Then aTmAg will come in with some completely out of left field take that is irrelevant to the movie and when 99% posters disagree and point out the disconnect, he will double down for 3+ pages.....

Unless I see a character actually having sex with the opposite sex on screen in the movie, I assume every character in every film is gay just to be on the safe side.

Randomly was over at my old man's house a couple of years ago and this movie was on TV. We watched the whole thing and laughed so hard. All these lines brought back that memory. Really feel like this movie is criminally underrated.
