A new documentary is streaming on Paramount+ about the legendary Denver restaurant Casa Bonita. Some of you may know it from South Park, and others may know it from having actually been there. I've been there three times, and although the food sucked, as a kid it was all about the experience, I was sad to hear it was shutting down in bankruptcy, but thanks to South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, it lives on.

This doc is the story of how Parker and Stone came to buy the restaurant out of bankruptcy and the nightmare horror show that ensued. Having been there multiple times made it really interesting to watch and at times I couldn't help but wonder how long ago it should have been shut down for all the problems it had.

It's an hour and a half and if you ask was it worth it?

Here's the trailer:

Wasn't there one of those restaurants in Fort Worth in the early 80s? I have a memory of going there once or twice but i was pretty young.

Yes! I remember going there. I believe it was next to Hulen Mall. I thought it was the coolest place in the world.

I went there on a church ski trip when I was a young kid and thought it was so cool.

Years later that episode aired and I couldn't believe it. The next day I told all my buddies that it was an actual place and they didn't believe me. When they realized it was indeed real I got a lot of street cred.

I'm skeptical of this documentary. Two guys famous for mocking everything buy a cherished restaurant and are doing a documentary about the associated troubles seems like shooting fish in a barrel.

Paramount+ execs: So Trey and Matt, what's the status of the next South Park exclusive streaming special?

T&M: we haven't really got any new ideas but how about we break off a very small amount of our vast fortunes, rehab a restaurant, film it all and present it to stupid viewers as a real documentary?

P+: Sounds good to us!

They bought the restaurant four years ago and spent millions and a lot of time just to get it back in business. They have been talking about it in interviews for a while now and it was a passion project for them not likely a gimmick for a streaming special

Yeah the problems they ran across to get the place to where it wasn't a giant hazard was pretty well known during the renovation process. It was clearly a passion project for Trey with Matt just going along and wincing at the amount of money they were spending on getting the place to look almost exactly like it did before they bought the place.

Weird take, indeed.

Is the BCS Pancho's restaurant still open? We used to go in the early 90s and I think I almost died after raising the flag one too many times. Roommates and I spent hours laying on the roof of our fourplex drinking beer then decided to go to Pancho's. We started in on the turkey flautas competing for who could put away the most and that was the most I have ever eaten in one sitting. We walk out and as I pass through the front doors something in my gut snapped and I collapsed on the concrete in front of the store . Ended up in a fetal position and unbuttoned my jorts ( this was 1992 lol ) and laid there for about thirty minutes while my roommates sat on the bench smoking cigs laughing at me.

Casa Bonita is a huge cultural phenomenon by itself. People actually travel to Denver just to go there. It's weird, but they do. The Casa Bonita fan love is real, not concocted for the documentary.

I spent my elementary years in Colorado Springs, Casa Bonita was always a highlight when we visited Denver. Seemed far away back then, turns out it's 74 miles…ha.

As a somewhat local resident of the restaurant, I'm so thankful they put so much into the restaurant. It's one of the few places that has a lot of history, got remodeled and they still kinda honor that kitschy style while upgrading it quite a bit. When it reopened, it was one of the hottest tickets in town and finally is getting more reasonable.

My clients love it. My kids love it. Looking forward to the documentary.
