This afternoon I watched "Purple Rain" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" so I got to hear The Time play "Jungle Love" twice. This was my first time seeing PR and I have a lot of thoughts. I saw a fb post after watching J&SB that it is the 24th anniversary of its release and I actually saw that opening weekend before I started classes at A&M the next Monday. Still haven't seen the reboot yet.

Any other unconventional double features that have something tieing them together?

Barbenheimer (Barbie and Oppenheimer) is the one that sticks out to me given how different they were. I'm not sure if there's some nugget that ties them together, but it was interesting to see how they were paired together in a lot of double features during their theatrical releases.

Oppenheimer->weapons testing->Bikini Atoll->bikinis->Barbie

I wonder if the kid had to pull a george costanza with his timberlands and wear his high heel boots everytime he went out with Apollonia since she first saw him wearing them

About 1959 (when I was 10) my sister, neighbor kid, and I went to see The Alligator People and Return of the Fly at the movie house in our little town.

The link is that both movies traumatized all of us.

The Showboat had lots of odd pairings, because the early showing was usually kid friendly while the late showing could be horror. I think the last time I was there I saw over the Hedge and Click, though that's not an odd pairing.

Sounds like you got caught in a celluloid jam.

I caught F1 and 28 Years Later on the same day this year but that's just because I was on the road for work and had nothing to do to fill the hours.
