This is far out of my wheelhouse. But what this video is talking about with the changes not only in how Hollywood is set up but also the medium used to make the movies etc. rings true. Anyway, I thought many would like to watch it. It's only ~9 minutes long. Explains why we might be seeing so much slop during this era of film making
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

I like the quote Leo had this week saying that going to the movies will be a niche as Jazz Clubs are today.

To me this is more widespread than just movies, and with the advent of AI I think it will only get worse.

Music was also better in the 90s. Today, like movies, there is less music featuring natural or creative talent and instead relies on production, effects, etc. You can compose an entire song without actually knowing how to play or use any of the instruments.

Still photography too. Instead of being patient and waiting for the right time of day or the perfect lighting, we artificially create it. Boost (or reduce) saturation. Filters!!!! We have an entire population of women who will airbrush or wash out their faces so much that their nose disappears.

Technology has definitely made things more accessible and tools more powerful. But it's sad that so many people producing media content seem ambivalent about losing the creative or thoughtful parts of putting together art.

I haven't watched the video yet but I think our culture as a whole is stuck. It's like we haven't advanced culturally past 2005, and in many ways have regressed in a lot of ways.

Yeah... it's sad. At least we still have those few directors out there who are making great films. Not to mention, I doubt studios were telling directors/filmmakers that they had to force in some ideology into their movies in order to be greenlit. And if it did ever happen, I doubt it was as prevalent.

I full heartedly agree. However, I don't know if that's just because I graduated high school in '05, so that's just my personal perception, or if there are some objective facts one can point towards that back that statement up. The funny thing is, I would argue that TV series (more dramas, not sitcoms) and sci-fi/fantasy novels have actually gotten better, since '05.

My last in theater movie was alien covenant in 2017…that movie sucked…have not even thought of going to the theater since…none of the people I associate with go to movies so there's absolutely no thought or discussion about it.

Infinity War and Endgame were fantastic in the theater.

No judgement here, I'm legit curious why. You actually seem to say it with a sense of pride, but that may be me reading too much into it.

Do you and your friend group just not watch movies at all? Or do you just shun theaters?

I don't go to the theater for every movie I watch, but there are some, like F1 this past summer, that are absolutely a completely different experience in the theater than at home on your tv. And absolutely worth it.

There is far too much high quality content avail from home to care much about going to theaters. I'll go for things like Dune in IMAX

You're absolutely right that in this day and age the quality of TV writing can be incredible. And it's not like there's an event movie such as F1 that should be seen in a theater being released on a weekly basis. But IMO, its also just about the setting, and sometimes even a "regular" movie is worth seeing in the theater on the big screen. For example, I went to an early theater screening of the first Knives Out movie and i'm glad that I did. It was fun watching an original old-school murder mystery caper on the big screen rather than just my couch and TV.

Good video, and very interesting.

Also, I dont care what the critics say, Last Action Hero was a banger. x2 Last Action Hero callouts and none for True Lies, which was also awesome.
