Jackyls song lumberjack came up on my Spotify and I forgot about the chainsaw solo!

What are other awesome rock solos that aren't played with typical rock instruments?

The only other one that immediately comes to mind is the flute solo in locomotive breath

How can you forget about the chainsaw solo? That was so badass that I've thought about every single day since 1993. Rock became popular in the 50s. How did it take 40 years for someone to say "let's do a solo with a chainsaw!"

Around that same time Van Halen brought out the drill for Poundcake, but it was overshadowed by Jackyl.

I wouldn't mind seeing a girl group do something with a hair dryer.

Used to hear that one on Z-Rock pretty often. Not as often as DT's "Pull Me Under," though.

Eddie copied the drill from Paul Gilbert.

A violin bow is a pretty classic part of a classic instrument, but using it on a rock guitar solo was Jimmy Page's thing. I love Zeppelin, but the bow thing didn't do much for me.

Glass slides on guitars have been around since the dawn of recorded music. That's an unusual idea that really worked. Of course every rock band has at least one moment where they use a bottle of beer as the slide.

In Cake's "Never There", there's a pretty good cell phone "riff" (solo? - not sure what to call it)
And of course Cake has plenty of trumpet in their songs.

Jimmy Page played a theremin in the bridge of Whole Lotta Love.

Not a solo, but it is a power tool sound… drum intro and outro of Rush's "Force Ten" is jackhammer sounds/samples.

Saw Jackyl play at a dive bar in the north side of Houston many years ago - Westfield's by the Railroad.

Fun show. They destroyed a barstool by the end of The Lumberjack.

I saw Stev Stevens playing his solo with a toy ray gun. Was longer than this clip and pretty cool sounding
