Was at the grocery store tonight when I heard what I presumed to be a cover of Robert Earl Keen's Cowboys Don't Cry. Being curious I got on the google only to find out that REK didn't actually write the song, some guy I had never heard of, Oliver Tree, did. While looking him up, I learned that he died today in a helicopter crash in Brazil.

Oliver Tree was a weird dude, but he was very creative. I had no idea REK covered that song, but im not a country music guy.

I accidentally stumbled on the footage of the crash. Pretty horrendous.

I went to see Fidlar open up for Oliver Tree at 713 Music Hall. Lots of young kids with their parents were there to see him. I didn't really know anything about him but stuck around to check out his set. It was a very mixed media theatrical performance with music, props, skits, video clips and visual effects. Kind of hard to describe but the kids seemed to love it.

I had not heard of him either. I looked him up on Spotify and he has over 700 million downloads on a couple of songs.

Caught him at ACL a few years back on one of the main stages. Was…..not for everyone. RIP

Only reason I knew of him was because we was on Bobby Lee and Andrew Santino. I think he almost walked off the show because Bobby pissed him off.
