In my opinion the only downside we have to off-campus bonfire is that we'll never see the school affiliated groups out there (Parson's, yell leaders, etc.) which is a huge part. It seems like the whole idea of just letting bonfire grow off campus is great and ideal other than this.

Is there any way possible the university could find a way to permit them to show up without claiming liability and sanctioning bonfire? From what I understood they aren't allowed at all.. 'hope I have my facts straight.

I agree. Arguments for having it on campus have always included the lack of the team, yell boys, band and others at SB, and are completely valid points to be made. Of course the BQs are out there representing with strong numbers, hats off to them and all the other CTs that make it out during the season (with I'm sure more difficulty than us nonregs), but they don't have instruments or anything A&M owned. And since the yell leaders are seen as representatives of the university, they aren't allowed either (same for RA's, university employees and I think athletes) because that apparently sends some signal that the university officially approves of the 'renegade unsanctioned off campus bonfire'.

Get some of those restrictions lifted, like RHA & athletes, and maybe in time you could get them to allow university employees (coaches) & yell leaders (not dressed out) to show. The music is already there; the loudspeakers may not have the same oomph as The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, but it does alright.

First step is just getting people with power to not say, "Do not do this." Thats not an acknowledgement of approval, just not a forbiddance. If we build it, they will come.

What about bringing back old yell leaders? Maybe even old band members? Surely the university can't do anything about keeping them from coming out there and I'm sure that they would be more than willing to participate.

I like that idea Mr. The class agent could start incorporating that into a sort of short term class reunion. I can see that getting pretty popular.

There's tremendous pressure from the Association of Former Yell Leaders to keep their members from participating.

No idea on specific reasoning. That's just what a few former yell leaders have said.

Of course I dont really know either but I would imagine that it has something to do with the Association of Former Yell Leaders not wanting to do anything that is divisive with the university. A "tow the party line" sort of thing.

SB actually did that once.
