Guys...I have to admit that I probably never would have gone out to Bonfire this year had it not been for my gaffe on Houston radio last Wednesday. Since then, I've tried to become more educated on the process and all that goes into making Bonfire happen each year off-campus. Basically, there are about 1,300 students that devote their lives into building the stack each fall...all in an effort to keep the spirit burning bright and maintain perhaps Texas A&M's most time-honored tradition!

I'm so glad that I went out there last night because the event was spectacular...almost a spiritual type of experience...one that hits home with Aggies from all around but is most likely unappreciated by those who do not understand "Aggieland."

I haven't seen an official tally in terms of how many people were at the event. But I would say "several thousand" were on-hand and I've seen it reported as the largest off-campus Bonfire they've had. I also know that many, many, many cars were turned away because the lot was full. I'm sure that the 10-year mark of the '99 collapse had a lot to do with the large turnout. In any event, it was GREAT to see so many Aggies come out.

They had an old Ag speak to the crowd...he was exceptional! They also had a yell practice and sang the War Hymn! It was a great experience and let's just say that I've been enlightened over the past week...those guys and girls do such a fabulous job at putting this together and they should be commended for their effort!

I will be going to Bonfire for many, many years to come! Do I hope it comes back on campus? Heck yes! That's always been my stance and it needs to become a renewed Aggie tradition! But I will go, enjoy and support Bonfire no matter where it is in the future!

Gig 'em, Ags and a special THANKS again to those who built such a great Bonfire this year!

Here are just a few of the pics that I took last night, in order and progression of burn:

Meant to go with the positively shocked/impressed emoticon-look...should have opened my mouth more (haha).
