Whelp, you suck at links.

But yes, the burn ban has been lifted. So what's next? I predict more waiting.

The website says that Burn is on Friday night.

The website also says only those directly involved are allowed to attend

Or are they saying that so people from out of town don't drive all the way back?

Will there be yells or just the lighting of the stack?

The statement on the web site notes that the burn on Friday is principally to clear the field and close out Bonfire 2010 so that preparations for Bonfire 2011 may begin. The statement also notes that Student Bonfire relies heavily upon revenues generated from Burn night in order to cover operating expenses, but given the burn ban that was in effect at the time of the scheduled burn last November, that source of revenue was lost this year which impacts the organization's ability to host another full-scale event for Bonfire 2010, particularly on short notice. Thus Student Bonfire is requesting that the crowd remain small, i.e. limited to those involved with this year's construction, in order to avoid exhausting the organization's remaining resources at this time.

Not the way I would choose to do it, but I don't get paid to make decisions.

I'll be out there with my camera.

Not to be a cynic here, but didn't I read on the above website that the Robertson county folks are meeting again Wednesday to consider reinstating the burn ban?

For those that just want to go out and photograph the stack burning, will they allow that or is it just simply so the junior and senior redpots can have the honor of lighting the stack and everyone will watch for a few and then just leave?

Because I simply want to go out and photograph the lighting of the stack, the outhouse burning, and watch the stack burn for a few and leave, since there probably won't be a yell practice or anything.

Howdy, I think this is your answer:

That article is from 2006 or earlier. KBTX does a terrible job at archiving and dating articles.

Thanks. Thought it was strange that wasn't a headline on the kbtx homepage.

Too bad there is no technology available to webcast the burn so everyone see it.

One of the local channels streamed burn last year on their website, with sound.

personally, I think this is crap. I did not "participate" in Bonfire this year because I am a former student, but I have several friend involved in it. I would like to go out to watch it at least light, but tonight I was told that I am not permitted because I am not redass enough to go out after I have graduated to pay for a cut card and participate in cut and stack.

This year's bonfire is a crock of **** (excuse the language), but honestly, if people came out and paid to see "burn" in November and werent able to, I think they should be able to attend, or repay, to see burn now. But as of now, everyone is being told no, despite paying before and willingness to pay a donation now, no one is able to attend burn.

Get you **** together redpots!

donations were accepted, and several people donated, at least I know several former students who did

Yes, donations were accepted, and for that the organization is grateful, as it helped to offset some of the cost of that evening, but the fact of the matter is that even with the generous donations given that evening, the organization still lost significant resources that night.

It is regretful that a full-scale event cannot be held at this time, but it is hoped that everyone will understand that a large-scale event requires large-scale logistics and a great deal of planning and coordination with local officials. It can't be put together over night, and it requires significant expenditure up front. To host a full-scale event at this time might impact the preparation for Bonfire 2011.

While many will disagree and be upset with the decision made, it is hoped that all will at least understand that the motivation is, and always has been, to preserve the organization in order to preserve the tradition, so that future generations of Aggies will be able to participate in the building of Bonfire.

No decision was going to appease everyone, it just sucks that it didn't get to light back in November when everything was set. But saving as much as possible for next year is the right thing to do, especially keeping in mind how much fundraising is going to have to happen this summer regardless.

I guess my only real question is whether there will be the will or the man power to turn away people who show up that don't have a cut card or pot (or whatever the deciding factor for entrance is).

I'm hoping that extras are let in, but that whatever crowd there may be is small enough to let through (to take in some parking donations) without causing traffic backups on the order of what a full scale burn night. Which probably could be mitigated by some freelance workers in grodes holding up signs on the highway directing traffic off the main road, poster board is cheap.
