I seem to recall from when they built the Bonfire memorial that the centerpole marker was located exactly where the 1999 pole stood.

Tonight I happened to be looking at an aerial of CS and glanced at the bonfire memorial. It seems to me that it isn't particularly close as to where stack was when I was in school. Reaching back into my memories, I feel like stack was normally a couple of hundred feet towards the golf course. Google Earth has historical aerials, but none were taken in the fall during the 90s.

Am I just misremembering?

1998 Stack, with Texas Avenue and University Drive in the background for reference:

Nope, looks like I was wrong. If you run a line from the peak of that WTA real estate building's roof and over the back right corner of Adult Video, it runs roughly through the middle of stack.

Using google earth it looks like I was wrong. Guess its been a lot of years.

That picture is of the 1993 Aggie Bonfire. The 1998 Aggie Bonfire was more straight up and this one is leaned inward. The logs in the '98 Bonfire were almost completely vertical. The stacks in this Bonfire are slightly leaning in.

I think they call that a tee-pee stack.

Sorry, Heddy, that was 60's/70's.

The marker location is spot on. I was there when it arrived (all my buddies carved our initials on the top), when it was put in the ground (my outfit had Centerpole in ´99), was on second tier the night of November 17th, and I was there moments after it fell.

They moved some dirt around and a few landmarks have been changed, but it is where it should be.
