I was talking with a professor today. He told me that the Brazos Valley used to be prarie land. The post oaks didn't appear until roughly 200 years ago when settlers arrived. Once settlers colonized and stopped the wildfires in the praries it allowed trees to start invading the prarie land. So really we are doing the land a favor, and we burn it just like nature intended.
