Since my thread got deleted, I'm reposting this.

I think it would be awesome if Jackie Sherrill spoke at bonfire this year. Since Coach Fran probably can't go out there and speak (has anyone asked him?)

Judging by the popularity at Aggie events featuring Coach Sherrill, this would generate great publicity for Bonfire.

Anyway, I've tossed this idea around to a few people, including a few greys, and everyone thinks it would be awesome.

Jackie Sherrill is coming to the Tap on Friday, would it be bad bull if I just sorta gauged his interest? One of the dead greys and I are gonna be in attendance.

Jackie's a good guy. Ask him.

Before pulling the trigger and inviting someone like that, make sure you have lights, sound, a real stage, and some serious event planning.

Just make sure that you communicate whatever happens to the current Greys.

Keegan... and that'll take some serious money... We can make it happen if we can get over the hump and get the cash raised.

Just came back from seeing Sherrill.

This guy absolutely loves A&M and Bonfire. He must have talked for almost 20 minutes of his hour long show about it.

"I learned more about A&M in one night out at stack than any other time."

He talked about how he came up with the idea for the 12th Man Kickoff team after hanging out with the redpots. He realized then that there were a bunch of kids that had what it took to be on a kickoff team. 1. Were crazy as hell. 2. Didn't give a damn about their bodies.

Long story short, after hearing him talk theres no doubt in my mind he'd help out Bonfire. I might go up there with a former grey tonight and ask him for some contact information. If anyone else is in town, he'll be at the Tap from 5-8 doing his radio show.

A stage can be built with plywood and highports.

Sound and lighting can be rented. It certainly wouldn't be more expensive than the money pissed away on the portable light units at stack last year.

I should be able to get a 5000 watt sound system for free or very cheap.

Can someone point me in the right direction of who actually has authority to ask Jackie to come speak. The guy has a busy schedule and it seems like now would be a good time to ask. From what he said at his coaches show, he's already planning to be here for the game.

We won't have a better opportunity than this year, game is here in CS, 20th anniversary of the 1985 championship . . . Jackie's presence will make this the biggest Bonfire in recent history.

Stage, lights, sound system, that can all be done.

I really want to see this happen and am willing to help out. I know a few former greys and alot of crew chiefs and butt pots, but I don't know how to contact any of the current grays.

I don't know how they are prgressing(maybe not at all since he hasn't posted), but slim was building some nice portable lights that were invisioned by slim for such purposes.This is my invitation to Slim to mention them(if they still exsist)

I kinda ran out of money... I have 2 of the 6 lights mostly finished.

Coach Fran can't speak at Off Campus Bonfire? Maybe it would draw heat from the University, but the United States Constitution says he CAN. Look up Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembley.

Not to knock on the man, but why in the world would Fran want to stick his neck out for Bonfire?

It's not up to Fran.

If he spoke at it, he'd be considered to be speaking for the University because of is role. Coach Fran and Texas A&M Football are synonymous because of his employment.

It's twofold... maybe he thinks he'd get axed for doing it (I don't know and I am speaking out of turn because I have no direct information on the subject) because the University probably has the right to dictate his involvement. They can't risk any condoning of a bonfire while litigation is on-going. You can understand why... it's not in their best interests, unfortunately.

But that's just speculation.

If you need some financial help on building those lights, im sure we can scrape up something. Might have to use some Aggie Engineering on them, but I guess you're the pro at that, right?
